![]() Alright my shifter will be in tommorrow and I wanted to throw it in on Wed. I have tried to find write-ups of the install for a B&M unit but was unsuccessful. Is there anything I need to be on the lookout for or any tips that will make the job easier? What about any extra hardware (or special tools) not included in the kit (i.e. c-clips, bushings, or boots . . . etc.). I remember someone saying that "the install was easy as long as you have a dremel" . . . Is it a tight fit sliding the shifter down or something? Thanks.

im not sure how to install one for the s13 but..if u go to the installs page on zilvia.net click on the Pilot/OBX/C's install to help u get started with taking things apart
heres wat to do for the s14, mayb u can apply it to urs? after you get the whole dash off, make sure u unscrew the boot ring, then unscrew the 6 bolt..4 of them is easy to find the other 2 are under the tranny tunnel. you'd have to get under the car. somebody said..instead of crawling under the car, use some tool and drill two holes and juss use a long socket wrench and take it out from there. after ur done taking out the 6 bolts, juss places ur B&M in and put everything back and ur done. dunno if that helps with ur s13 tho |

I got a B&M for chirstmas. It comes with it's own instructions (in english with pictures even) and looks straightforward enough. uiuc240 installed his and said it's not too bad, though some of it is a tight fit (for your hands and tools to reach). Ironically enough, I may be installing mine on wednesday as well into my nice white kouki S13 hatchback.

So any tips for getting off those 2 front bolts (of the 6) holding the shifter down. Do most people just try to use an open end and be really patient or what?

"hey tubed4evr"
take the plastic piece off around the shifter and that goes around the heat controls and radio. i did it that way and i used a ratchet w/ a swivel socket and it took all of 5 min to get it out. a small screwdriver and a pik to get the snap ring out, and out it came. hope this helps

Being able to access the underside of the car while doing the install made things much easier for me.. Under the car, there is plenty of room to turn a open end wrench.
Breaking the paper gasket seal when taking out the stock shifter took some effort.. even with pushing up with wrench from under the car. Taking off the stock shift knob was also expectedly hard.. I ended up wrapping the knob in cloth and breaking it free with a vise (yes, i held the vise in my hands and twisted). This allowed me to not have to use the very lame B&M shift knob. I would suggest changing the transmission fluid while you have access to a great fill-point |

I installed mine on wed. and I ended up just jacking up the car to put the front bolts back in. The 2 front ones were easy enough to get out from the top but putting them back in was a pain so I just did it from underneath . . . took 10 min. The shifter is definately bad ass. I can't believe how solid it feels and the "buzz" noise is a non issue until I hit 6 grand and by that time you really can't hear it over exhaust and intake. I give it a 2 thumbs up

You might also want to change the tranny oil as well. Since the B&M notchy, it might make the shifting smoother.
