s13 sr in s14 oil pressure problem

I have a s13 sr20det in an s14. its pretty much a stock engine with only a fmic.

i had an oil leak that was coming from a crack in the front cover. engine ran perfectly fine with no problems except for the leak. instead of just taking it off and trying to repair it i just bought a brand new one. and thats where all my problems started.

ever since i replaced the oil pump with a brand new one i havnt been able to get any oil pressure.

i installed the new one and primed the oil pump and everything before i started it and drove it. i noticed the oil light was on but i thought it would go away as the oil pump built more pressure. it was making a knocking noise but it gradually went away and started quieting down.everything seemed to be fine so i took it for a test drive.

i was driving around for about 10-15 mins perfectly fine. i start to accelerate and while in second i gave it a little bit less then half throttle and then all the sudden i hear a high pitch metal scrape and the car stalls. i started it back up and the car turned on but there was a loud metal scraping metal sound.

i take off my valve cover and took out the coils and just cranked it and it was my cams not getting oil. there was no oil shooting out of the oil squirters. i poured some oil directly onto my cams and cranked the engine again and the sound went away.

i take off the brand new oil pump and i see that i put too much gasket and i blocked off the hole where oil come out of the pump and into to the engine. i thought to my self right away that that must have been the problem. i cleaned it out and was careful not to make the mistake again.

after i put everything back together i go to start up my car and once again im not getting any oil to my cams. i primed the oil pump again and no oil coming out of the squirters. there is no knocking but only a metal scraping which is the cams.

what im trying to figure out is how a cracked oil pump/front cover was working perfectly fine and all i did was change it to a brand new one and no oil pressure at all. its driving me fukin crazy bc itll be 4th time ive taken the oil pump/front cover off in the past week and i cannot figure out why i have no oil pressure.

does anyone have an idea why im not getting any oil pressure even with a new oil pump or what it could be? and i cant put the old one with the crack back on bc i kinda warped it and cracked it even more when i was taking it out.

and if anyone is wondering if i put it on right with the bearing sleeve thing that drives the oil pump and everything, im pretty sure i did bc i have changed my oil pump before and it worked fine. the cracked one i put on but it didnt crack didnt start showing untill a couple months after i put it in. so im pretty sure i put on everything correctly.

could it be the oil filter back up or clogged or something and not letting oil through? i didnt change the oil filter bc it was less than a 1k miles.

Kiss your engine goodbye...my guess is you forgot the o-ring in the sump. Imagine sipping thru a straw with a hole in it...thats basically whats happening without that lil o-ring. Like I said, you drove the car with a low oil pressure, SRs die with no oil quickly. Drop your oil pan and see how much metal shavings you have...im pretty sure your cams not getting oil is the LEAST of your worries at this point. Im willing to bet that rod knocks are next cuz your bearings probably starved of oil too...

when you say sump, do you mean the o-ring on the oil strainer where it bolts up to the oil pump? i made sure that o-ring was there and sealed it good and was careful not to block it with gasket.

if you look at the cover theres a hole that matches up with the block. it needs an -o- ring to seal. without that theres no pressure.

ok i checked for that oring on the actual engine where the oil pump comes in contact with the engine and it was missing. i put an o-ring in there and put everything back together (again) carefully to make sure i didnt miss anything, and still no pressure. i primed the oil pump for like 15 mins and still no oil coming out of the squirters. im out of ideas on what it could be.

i think im going to finally start excepting that even though i bought the oil pump brand new it might be defective.

does anyone have anymore suggestion on what to do or what it could be?

Did you use a FSM. Going by memory will kill your engine. USE AN FSM AND READ IT STEP BY STEP AND FOLLOW IT.
