cheaper? buying it? or building it?

yep yep i saw this 1991 nissan 240sx s15 conversion
but i thought...would it be cheaper if i just bought a coworkers 1989 240sx for $1,300 and then buying a body kit and s15 conversion kit and paint? or just buy the car listed above? how much would the same body kit cost? and the conversion to s15 front? thanks!

lol.

If it had anything besides the KA in it, I'd say its worth it...

Other than that, with 5 grand put into a 2000 s13, you could have a nice s13 silvia front end, an sr20, and some nice suspension. Forget paint. Primer grey all the way.

me and my bro thought about doing a s15 conversion
on a hatch, and we kinda made a list

-s15 bumper support (roughly around $200)
-s15 headlights (used $500ish new non HID $700-$800)
-s15 origin kit ($800 not including a discount from phase2..hehe)
-s15 carbon fiber hood ($500-$700)
-s15 conversion fenders (bought chargespeed ones for $125 a piar)

its a cool project, but pricey. and the paint isnt even included
yet. hopefully this helps you out

depends on what you want with the car... If you enjoy the build up from scratch then make your own. I always laugh when people get harassed for buying someone else's finished car instead of building their own from the ground up. Especially track cars... nine times out of ten you will save time and money buying someone else's finished car.

if you know what your doing you can do it for less than that and still dope. Hell I am putting more into my headlights than the body panels lol. I am going all out on them most people don't, but yeah you can do the whole conversion for about $12-1500. Then you paint and add side skirts and something for the rear. I actually am putting my main parts together for under 1k and I am using steel fenders.

$800 for a Origin body kit on top of it is like a waste of time. Oh and the money you will spend working those fiberglass fenders to fit and look right will wind up offsetting how cheap you paid for them. About the only way out of that is being versed in doing fiberglass work and body work. Otherwise $$ to make those fit.

Ya except if you buy someone else's build you better be damn happy with it or you will have spent the money for nothing. Don't get me wrong I am not against buying already built cars. It's just I see so many already built cars that people are selling that don't live up to my standards.
It's rare to find a nicely built car that does not sell for a lot of money. Of course these days even built cars are not selling. LOL

Buying a finished car just isn't rite imo. You'll never really have that feeling of pride and accomplishment. Do it yourself and enjoy the process.

Hey, I know that car (from the CL ad).

GORGEOUS paint. Hotass female drives it sometimes... I wouldn't call it "finished", though.

With that said, I'd rather shoot myself in the foot than put an S15 front end on a 240.

More often than not you save buying. But that defeats the purpose of a tuner vehicle (I hate that phrase so much).

Also consider miles and whether 5-speed or not. Just get what will suit you the best. If you like the looks of the purple one and it has everything you want in one then get it. Otherwaise if the other has the options you want like a stick or auto for example get it.

You'd spray flat black over a perfectly good paint job?

Retarded.

Agreed!!! It looks good, but prolly can't get out of its own way.. btw I'm not busting on the KA, but lets face it, stock KAs don't blow your mind with power. 240sxmotoring.com has an S13.5 conversion kit for $1800 I believe. That comes with a Seibon CF Hood, OEM Headlights, Origin conversion feners, and an origin bumper of your choice. All pretty top quality. I say DIY, but it all depends on if you'd actually be doing it yourself or paying someone else to do it for you. Labor then becomes a factor. The money you spend on labor for the conversion and paint could cost you the price of a DIY SR swap!

that does not look bad for $1300 if its running. Is it auto or 5 speed? If its a running 5 speed its a good deal at that price.

$7000 for an S13 with a stock motor????????

I dont care if it has an S15 front end, there is no way in hell that car is worth that much. Maybe if it had an SR under the hood $7k would be a good price. Otherwise not worth it in my opinion. Just build your own.
