240sx Manual Transmission problem

I have a 1992 nissan 240sx with a stock transmission and a stock shifter. I was getting on the freeway today only to discover that it would not shift into fifth gear. All other gears are fine and car drives fine, it just wont shift into fifth. wondering if anyone else has had this problem and was wondering if anyone could help me solve it.

Thanks

id recommend getting your tranny checked after 100k mi to get the syncros replaced. gotta make sure ur changing ur fluid at least every 30k mi. your 5th gear has it's own dedicated 'slide rail' iirc. not sure if thats what that part is called. but if you hardly have tranny fluid and the car is in motion, i believe it won't let you shift into 5th. anyway, get your tranny checked. would only cost about 80 bones for a check-up. if you do need some things replaced, usually the shop will make the 80 go into the part and labor charges.

Heh, I have seen this before. If your trans goes into all the other gears fine but won't do fith? Its toast. Do not drive it as like Ray said it will only get worse and take out the other gears. I would say the only driving I would do with it now if I were you is to your garage or the shop.

Remove and replace. Unless you really want a fresh rebuilt trans its probably worth it just to find a decent used one. They are less expensive than doing a whole rebuild.

^i can vouch for that, same thing happened to me.

just go to the junkyard and grab another tranny, they should only be like $100 if that.
