Japanese Touring cars on speed.

I thought I let the ppl on zilvia.net about JTC or JGTC on speed.
Check this link out

http://www.speedtv.com/programs/inde...am=&usecal=yes

Look for Monday 13th on 9:00pm to 10:30. Eastern time, but you can change it to your time zone. I'm very exited that speed channel is covering Japanese touring car.

Thought I share the news.

I saw it and taped it. Basically, 3 races compressed into three 30 min. segments narrated by a British guy. Awesome overall, but I wish they would allot a longer time-slot, as 104 laps compressed into 30 min is just not enough. It was all the regular JGTC cars, the GT500 NSX'es, Supras, R34 GT-R's, McLarens, a Modena and a Lambo, and the GT300 Silvia S15's, MR-S, 996 Porsches, M3 GT-R, etc. I hope this wasn't just a one-time thing and becomes a regular program.

Fueji-e-yamer

Well, since you started didn't look in off-topic, guess I'll just join this thread

I like the idea, but after so much hype in the US, I can't say as I'm too impressed. A few of the drivers were top notch, but there seemed to be a lot of amateurs (for Japan's premier series). There was such a huge difference in driving though b/n the races - the first race was very gentle and the cars didn't look like they were being pushed at all (especially considering the rubber they use! ). By the third race, people were doing all sorts of stupid things and the driving started to look like SVWC (w/ 1/3 the number of cars in two classes).

The coverage wasn't the best (1.5 hr. race compressed into 30 mins) and the officiating was scary (the red light trumped the official waiving the Aussie back out, people driving the wrong way on the track, people re-entering the track at inopportune moments, full course yellow for a stalled car).

And how badly de-tuned are the European cars? A McLaren running in GT500 and not dominating? Or the 911 GT3R in GT300 (with a BOXTER MOTOR!!! ). Oh yeah, don't M3 GTRs come out of the box at over 300 - why de-tune them for GT300?

While interesting and great to see, I admit I was a bit let down. DTM or BTCC it is not.

Unhappy I can't belive I missed it

I am stuck in a hotel for work and the cable selection sucks (and a perfectly good satilite at home). Anyway, I love all types of road racing and will watch it all as long as its on TV.
Hippo,
In response to your comment about subpar driving. I would assume that it was closer to European Touring Car than DTM. ETC having more accidents and spins and DTM just being about Manufacturer's points. Both have their good and bad points but I look at it this way

AT LEAST IT AIN'T NASCAR

Did anyone catch the viper smashing into the supra on the second race? Then the next race he crashes into another car..... I'm like eh WTF? By the way why is viper in a GT300 class? That car makes 400hp stock. The viper still has a v10 in the gt 300 class. So what's the deal?

I'm not a expert when it comes to race tracks. So I can't comment on them. All I can say is that jgtcc is still a young sport. Give it some time. I yet to see a DTM, BTCC or ETC. I don't have the speed channel. I went to my friends house across the city to watch this. :P

In some other posts, someone made what I thought was a very good point - that when compressing a 1.5-2 hour race to a 30 minute show, you are likely to see a lot of punts and bonehead passes. I take that as a good sign that this isn't as bad as it looks.

Still - it doesn't look as controlled or professional as the major European TC groups, which is to be expected. They've been doing this for a while and have the best drivers.

Jose - you mean the Viper GOING THE WRONG WAY ON THE TRACK!! I don't get the classing at all. There were NSXs in 300 and 500? (and the aforementioned M3 and 911/Boxster). I know they do performance adjustments to the cars (weight and restrictor plates) - I have no idea how much lead and how little air you give a Viper to make it uncompetitive in a 300 hp class? (the thing DOES do awfully well in European sports car series)

Good fun and good so see the cars though!
