speaker stuff

For Christmas I got a set of RF Components to replace the stock ones in my SE. They sound really good at low to medium volume but when I crank it the tweeters are just piercing. I didn't replace the crossovers becuase the instructions that came with the speakers said to use them with a sub, and I don't have one. I have a couple of questions..
1. Does my car have stock crossovers? If so, where are they?
2. If I put these crossovers in do I just hook them up to the other mid ranges?
I'm completely clueless when it comes to this car audio/crossover/amplifier stuff. Can anyone help me out here?

Wow ok I have RF Comps and I am kinda confused on what you did here is what is supposed to happen....wire from the head unit or amp-->X Over--->then it has 2 sets of wires one goes to the tweet the other to the mid. The X over is needed in order to keep the right frequences(sp) going to the right speaker for example the woofer playes the mids and I would guess if you dont have subs the lows too. The tweeter is meant to play just the highs. It will not work vise versa the tweeter will blow if it tries to play the mids/lows and the woofer will blow if you try to play the highs. so the purpose of the X over is to block certain frequences from going to the wrong speaker. If I confused your or didnt answer your question let me know ill try to help out a bit.

Unless I am going WAYYYY astray somewhere, the 240 did not come with components at all, so there was no X-over stock for you to even consider. This means that YES you have to use the box supplied, and you can only hook 1tweet and 1mid up to each box. Have fun drilling holes for the tweeters, it is actually quite easy, just take one of those drill bits you use to make holes in doors (make sure it is a small one) and put them in the doors above where the A/C vents are (it is very flat). I have people ask me if mine are stock all the time. Oh, and good luck, it is actually very easy.

Well what I did was just replace the current speakers with new ones. It was quite simple. So what I have to do know is take the doors off again, along with the a-pillars and the dashboard....take the head unit out....attatch the crossover to the head unit....hide the crossover somewhere under the dash or someplace...run two of the wires from the crossover to the tweeter...run the other two into the door and up to the mid. Is this correct? This will a little more than an hour.

Ok I just installed mine the other day here is what I did. Drilled a hole in the door for a tweet very easy looks nice too. Then you can put the X over in the door along with the other stuff their is tons of room. I dont see why you have to take off the whole dash too all I did was use the existing wires from the back of the CD player so I didnt have to run new wires through the doors. I will try to get some pics of my setup.

they recommend you put the tweeters as close to the mids as possible for some reason. But I recommend Putting it up so you can hear it. *I don't have my bass set to -3 on my speakers * Um.... what speakers did you get. Infinite. They are the easiest I think to install. I havn't looked between the door panel but I think it can be managable to stick the crossover inside there.

Ok here's what I did.. I've already mounted the tweeters in the pillars where the stock ones were. When I do put the crossovers in I'll see how I like them then...if I don't like them there I may put them down by the mids. It says to have the mid and the tweeter either within two inches of each other or more than seven inches apart. I'll just try to run wires up to the pillars to the tweeters. I may just end up putting them down by the mids.
Devotion: What kind of a drill bit did you use to cut the inside door panel? Did you use a Dremel or something? Cuz it's going to have to be about an inch in diameter.
edit: I think it's all coming to me now guys. Thanks for all your help. It seems pretty easy and straightforward...I can't believe Best Buy wanted $200 to install them.

so, the 95-98's DID come with components, then? bastards... i'm gonna have to drill holes.
actually, i heard the JDM s13's DID come with components, with tweets that mount in the triangle of plastic right behind the side mirrors.... can anyone confirm that?
