I'm trying to replace the valve oil seals on my SOHC engine without removing the head. So I remove the rocker arm shaft and compress the valve spring but I can't seem to loosen the valve spring retainer from the valve stem. The springs are compressed enough so that I can move the valve stem up and down freely but I can't budge the spring retainer or the split retaining ring.

How do you remove the split retaining ring that keeps the spring retainer on the valve stem? :confused:
