I have an s13 auto (oh well) lately, my car has been experiencing some problems. the engine shakes and almost stalls...and then revs back ups...it only does this in drive or reverse, not in park or neutral. also, during acceleration, at the low rpms, it makes a sputtering noise and has no power, like it's struggling the accelerate...after about 3500 rpms, it seems fine...but i can't go up hills faster than 35mph. what's wrong???

It sounds like you may be having problems with your fuel system (fuel injectors, fuel pump, or a clogged fuel filter). Anyone agree? Disagree?

ok, i'll check that out...thanks a lot...do you think the plugs and wires have anything to do with the problem too??? also, how could you tell if you were only running on 2 or 3 cylinders?

That could also be a possibility, but if one of your plugs were fouling out, it would probably affect your idle when you start the car and your idle would probably be a little rough when you car was in park and neutral also. I could be wrong though.

yeah check out your ENTIRE fuel system then your ENTIRE ignition system...then you can check to see if it's any of that mass air flow sensor or Throttle position sensor thing....

arcane start it up, rev it up a bit, then let it just idle. get out, pop the hood, and remove #4 cylinder spark plug. if the cylinder has been lighting up, you will hear a noticable drop in the sound of the revs. if you do, good, plug it back in, and repeat with cylinder #3. if you've lost compression or your sparkplugs are dead, you wont hear a difference after you remove the wire.
hope this helps its the "ghetto compression test" |

Definitely try that. Also, replace your rotor cap and distributor, that helps. Get some NGK plugs and wires, and also check your fuel system.
