![]() Hi to all!
Well, i was reading some of the posts about overdrive and the effect on the auto tranny...i have a 93 fastback, and since this is my first car i have one question for u guys... how do i know if the car is making all the changes, i mean, could someone tell me at what speeds the transmission must make it's changes??? at what speed the overdrive kicks in??? that's because i only nottice 3 changes, with od on...is there another way to know if the od is working??? car diagnostics maybe?? Another thing...perhaps someone has the same problem with the auto tranny: when i start driving, i nottice the tranny somewhat sluggish (a harsh pull) when it makes the change to second gear, this lasts a few minutes (when i make a stop and then go) and then it makes the change very smoothly...is this normal???? if not, what can i do to fix it??? Thanks so much, hope u can help. |

Yea. In an auto tranny, you should only feel 3 shifts.
1-2, 2-3, 3-overdrive. The tranny is a 3-speed + overdrive, which is a planetary gear that will effectively drop the gear ratio slightly. Also.. if you feel carefully, you will feel a 4th "shift", but it's just the torque convertor locking up. That will drop your RPM by a couple hundred. Finally.. to test your overdrive, go on a road about 45+ mph, at constant speed. Then press the overdrive button on the shifter, and you'll see/feel the "gear change", and notice the RPM rise. -Jeff
