Over HEATS every 6mo

Ok this is buggin, every 6 months or so I get really hot. While driving its fine but when i stop for maybe 3-5 min the electric fan turns on and then my baby over heats. No steam or leaks just HOT. Get on the gas and it drops to normal and the fan turns off????

I have a brand new water pump, new thermostat, radiator cap, flushed and tested. Last time this happened my cap was not holding pressure. Any ideas would help out.

Yeah I get really hot every six months or so too. I think it's cause I'm in heat. HA just kidding...I needed to joke been a long day at work.

Seriously, what type of cap are you using? Have you had this one checked since the problem started up again? You also might want to check your hoses too, they could be clogged regardless of the flushing. Check your coolant\water mixture. Is the thermostat installed in the right direction? Trust me I've seen this before...
If none of this helps, check your cooling system relay switches, maybe one of them are bad. You might also want to take it to a shop that can temperature test the car while it idles with a temp gun. They can observe the temp when it's cool and when exactly the fans kick in and what happens to the temp when they do. That alone could help them find the source of your problem. Most places will check this for a very small fee, hell some guys might just do it for free. Try the small garages that seem like the mechs are nice and friendly. Those are the ones that always help with the really small stuff.

Good luck...

Hey thanks for te ideas, but we already did all that. Relays work fine(tried that first) temps read norm, and hoses are new. It might be the cap again. the Greddy failed fast(cap) and the firestone is on there now. Why would it go bad so soon?

KA

Where do you live? Maybe the climate matched with hard driving is popping the caps. Or maybe you just got stuck with some bad caps. If all that fails I don't know what else to tell you. Talk to a couple mechs and see what they say....?

Sorry I couldn't help more.

stick to the oem cap, that's what I usually do. 13psi should be the right set. or 88kpa, and i think .9 bar.

uhm, make sure you have a 170degree thermostat.

your brand new water pump might not be working?

did you by any chance cut the water pump belt??? (some people do that when they cut their powersteering belt)

check for oil inside your coolant, possibly hg problem.

Did you BLEED the air out of your car correctly? it's important to use the burp hole, otherwise you'll still have bubbles floating around.

ALSO, it's generally NOT a good idea to get any radiator cap that isn't using STOCK pressures, UNLESS you have an UPGRADED cooling system that can HANDLE higher pressure. Otherwise you're just inviting problems for our older cars.

--- Did you swap out your clutch fan?

it's possible the thermostat on your electric fan = ghetto and doesn't turn on before it starts to heat up. probably a good idea to lower the thermostat temp on the fan.

your coolant temp sensor could be bad too.

check'em all out.
