If so how many miles should it last until you need to change the timing chain. Thanks

Yes, they do... A timing chain should last the whole life of your engine. Change it when you rebuild, unless it is stretched for some reason.

Sometimes guides and tensioners fail, in which case many people replace the chain while they're in there. Preventative measures, I suppose. But if your chain is not causing problems (excess noise) then don't touch it.
