![]() And yes I'm talking about exhausts, bov's, etc. *gasp* "You can't be serious?" some of you are probably asking. I'm just kinda tired of listening to cars drive down the street at 98+db. I'm just wondering if there are any quiet performance parts for our cars? For example, its time for me to get a new exhaust (age has taken its toll on mine and plan to go turbo eventually ) but I'm looking for something quiet. My car has a pretty throaty sound and I prefer that over the Waaahhhhhhh that I hear other cars with. BOV's. I'm not looking for something that screams "Hey you over here! I've got Turbo!" I just want something quiet that goes "Pssstttt...hey you...Pssstt" Know what I mean? Yes. Thats about it. Am I doomed to buying loud for more go? Thanks for your time cats.

I was driving to ontario one day and their was a dressed up civic with dual fart cans. It sounded just like a lawn mower. I mean it was just like it I could only laugh knowing thats pretty much what kind of engine they got in their cars. So his car was loud but it was still a slow piece of **** honda.

an APEXi N1 with silencer (or N1 dual with dual silencers) will still probably be much louder than you'd like.
Enjuku carries a HKS "Hi-power" or something to that extent-- that looks stock and apparently sounds almost stock, as well. I'm considering that for the same reasons you should. ![]() BOVs are relatively easy to find in subtler flavors, although I can't tell you exactly which brands to pick from.

Using a recirculating BOV should help a bit with noise as well.

Find some JASMA approved exhaust. They are much quieter than the others. You can also look for a design that includes a resonator before the muffler (like Tanabe, Border3, etc), it should lower the sound.

i hate recommending the stuff i have to others (because i like to be original), but the 5Zigen exhaust is pretty mellow. especially when compared to the N1. as far as bov's go, like transient said, get a recirculating one instead of an atmosphereic (sp?) and you should be fine.

5zigen Border III exhaust is quiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiet!
If you've ever heard of those performance exhaust systems for like the Volvo 850, it's like that. It's definitely not loud, but it has got more bass. You won't even set off car alarms with it. BOV w/ it recirculating through the intake is another good idea. Wastegate that dumps into exhaust is another choice. Right there you've eliminated two of the biggest sound creations, exhaust and intake. ------------ It's funny tho, my stock s13 likes to make some car alarms go off.

I enjoy making car alarms go off as I go by but there are times I don't enjoy sounding like a cesna at take off. I am running with an RSR exhaust and a Greddy open air BOV. There are alternatives that you can check into. I also have an inline silencer made by Apexi. It's mechanical but it does the job. It make the car sound almost stock and just as quiet. Keeping in mind I am insanely loud at times. As of late, I have kept the silencer in my exhaust tip, quiets things a little but I am still loud. Bottom line, even if you end up with a loud exhaust, there are silencers you can get to make them quiet. As far as a BOV, you can recirculate it back into the system which will give you your 'psst...'. It'll also allow you to hear your turbine back pedal. That's just something some people like...

HKS not all the HKS are made like "NI" racing exhaust and the Apexi GT (the GT's are loud but they both are made for silencers). to be honest, depending on the size turbo, it's still going to make the "hey i have a turbo" sound. A friend of mine hase a 2001 Audi A4 turbo and when he takes off you hear turbo and his cars is all stcok.

If you're running a straight pipe, at least put a couple resonators in there, or weld in a straight through design muffler like the Borla XR-1 into your straight pipe-- it will significantly reduce sound output without restricting exhaust flow. High flow cats are good, but mufflers as a main cat will flow better and do a better job at quieting the car.
Apex GT spec isn't loud at all, the N1's on the other hand...bweeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! the sound output of the car is dependent on other factors as well, such as piping size, etc etc

On my 95 civic i had a custom 2.25" mandrel bent exhaust with a resonator and "Dunk" style muffler..... Alot of the honda people would ask if I had a motor swap because it didn't sound like a civic.... I actually had headwork and cams on a 1.5 non-vtec that dyno'd 120hp and 110tq to the wheels. With that exhaust over the stock it made 9hp more to the wheels.
