My clutch recently gave out and my dad paid some mechanic and got a brand new clutch kit (organic) installed. When he drove it home he said it was fine. I then tried to drive it and i noticed it was slipping like crazy. I took it to a friend that specializes in BMWs and he adjusted some thing by the clutch pedal and it was no longer slipping. Now, about 150 miles later, its starting to slip again but its not consistent it would slip at random times and grab at other times. I'll admit I did stomp on it a few times maybe 7-9 times but it was only to test the slip. Other than that I've been shifting around 2.5-3k. It usually slips at 3k and up. I havent bled my clutch yet. If someone can help me I would really appreciate it. And I know there have been posts about this but I feel like my problem is somewhat different. Thanks in advance

update: my car will not even move and it wont go into gear when car is on.

bleed it, that's the only thing i can think of.. it should grab perfectly.

Did the mechanic have the flywheel resurfaced?

If it won't go into gear with the engine running, then you've got a problem with hydraulics, arm, the pilot bushing, or maybe the springs popped out of the disc.

I had a similar problem...I went with a cheap exedy clutch when I did my five-speed swap and someone else drove it before I did. They did drive it rather roughly.

The clutch started slipping a few weeks later so I adjusted the MC which helped the problem for awhile. The clutch almost completely failed shortly after. I replaced it with an OE one from carquest and made sure nobody else drove my car until the clutch was well out of the break-in period. That clutch worked fine for a year-and-a-half until several of the springs broke free.

maybe you should go back to the mechanic and make him do his job right. but then again if he messed it up it might not be too good of an idea. try bleeding it first if that doesnt work it might be your slave cylinder and if its not that its your fork and throwout bearing that might not be aligned

thanks for the help guys but the mechanic did say he forgot to resurface the flywheel but he did bleed it "supposedly"... also the car grabs when its cold but not when its hot.. and now it goes into gear fine when on but it still slips.. im thinking about buying a new clutch and flywheel -_- any more input ? oh and before i got the new clutch installed it never slipped, the reason i had it replaced was because one of the springs popped out. thanks in advance guys

Like he said. Go back the the guy and have him make good on the job he was paid to do. Don't let some douche walk away with your money just because he didn't do it right.

The hell is wrong with yall. Bleeding and adjusting the slave and clutch pedal is not gonna stop the clutch from slipping. It will help if he was having problem disengageing the clutch.

either the mechanic didnt resurface the flywheel or didnt torque the clutch plate down correctly and maybe the bolt are comming loose?

Take it back to him and tell him its fuckin up

he wants to charge again for the labor of taking out the transmission -_- hes stupid and im not taking it back to him. i have a close friend that is about to open his shop soon and he said he would do it for it, its just i only have one day during his busy schedule that he can do it for me so i have to know exactly what the problem is and what to replace so i can get it all done in one day. after all this im pretty sure its the flywheel because the original mechanic said it was the OEM one which is 16 years old and has never been replaced. he said it was rather thin and its confirmed, he didnt resurface the flywheel. so im guessing for sure its the flywheel? i just hope the clutch is still in good working order and i dont have to replace it ... ive only put like 200 miles on it.

i had the same problem, well kinda, it happened after i put a used clutch back into my car, but after a few days it started grabbing fine. I don't think resurfacing your flywheel will fix the problem. I'd have to drive it myself to really see what the problem is. does the slipping happen while your in gear? like after you try to apply more gas? or while your trying to get in gear?

So is it still slipping?
