need YOUR advice
ok i've been trying to sell or trade my car for the longest time here in GA, finally a guy gave me two options and i wanna hear some outside thoughts..
MY CAR: 96 s14 SR20 with t28 scpec r turbo, 550cc, and over $5000 mods inside and outside, new turbo setup has about 1K miles. pushing aroud 300HP Heres the message he send about his cars: i have the titles in hand, i only have a couple horrible pics now, whats your email, i can send them to you passat - 2001 it has 124k miles on it, 5 speed turbo Silver exterior, gray cloth interior, all the power accessories, sunroof works wonders it has h&r sport springs on it, and audi sport wheels on it now, I also just installed a pioneer usb cd player as far as maintanance, I just did the radiator over the summer, and had the coolant flange replaced last month. I have had it for two years or so, and have loved every minute of it, I wouldnt hesitate to drive it anywhere in the country tomorrow. It literally will go for another 30k miles before another basic tune up is done. one issue, the abs module needs to be replaced. It can either be rebuilt by a guy online for 50 bucks, or a brand new reman on ebay for 180. I hadn't looked into it, because its intermittent, but I figured Id let you know. audi 1998 Audi A4 Avant (wagon) 2.8 Quattro Manual I bought this from new york, and drove it down with zero problems. I even got around 28mpg on the highway(not bad for a v6) 153k miles, and it had about 3k worth of maintanance right before i bought it. The guy I got it from bought it from a family friend, who owned it for a long time. its black with tan leather interior. It has zero issues, except for the sunroof...it needs a switch.. It has zero road noise while driving, and I have made 3 500+ mile road trips in the past month and half, zero issues whatsoever. Let me know if the carfax comes back negative on either of these. I didn't run it before I bought them, but I havent had any problems at all, nor do i forsee any problems anytime at all soon he is giving me $3K on top of the car... so what do u guys think? what car should be better, i donk know much about audis and VW only that repairs/insurance are more expensive.... my plan with this car is to keep it as is maybe some mods, but my fiance will end up with it... Jus wanna know if this is worth it? thanks! and +1 if u help out with any info Last edited by jdms-14; 02-04-2009 at 10:41 AM.. |

hes offering both of those + 3K for your S14? what year is that passat?
sounds like a good deal on your end. 3k is enough to find a nice S13 shell+SR20 if you want to stay in the 240 scene. Id probablly do it, but id have to throughly drive/inspect both vehicles. |

Either would make a good daily, but I personally wouldn't mod them.

ahhhh that makes it a little bit harder though, but the same still applies as far as staying in the 240 scene. girls gets nice dd, and you can still have a toy (if you want) still sounds pretty win-win but i thought it was both, that woulda been a done deal

I know the guy with the VW and Audi. I've driven both, and they're great daily drivers. If I were going to choose one, I'd probably go with the audi, but that's just personal preference. I would suggest test driving both to see which one you like better. The Audi has more "creature comforts" like leather heated seats, but the VW is probably worth more because it is newer and has less miles.
You have your S14 listed for $7,300, right? I will say that he could get more than $4k for either of those cars, so trading you plus giving you $3k would probably be a better deal for you. I know he's had a few S14s in the past and has really been wanting another one, so that's why he's willing to throw in $3k on top of either of the cars. |

audi > vw
and its a wagon, might come in handy since your getting married. ive traded my s13 for a oldschool benz a few years ago. You may like it as no more worries about getting in trouble/theft etc.. Usually id consider a trade for a car that has some sort of historic/world value importance behind it.. the Passat not really..

maintenance SUCKS on those cars. I wouldn't want to get a german car with high miles unless it was an e30/e36. (if you are trying to save money)
if you HAD to choose one, i'd do the audi. |

i agree. parts are expensive and the diag on those just always seems a little bit harder because everything is really different than most setups. if you are familiar with VW or feel confident owning one id say go for it. sounds like a good deal.
