what kind of gear do you need to have to run?

is a rollcage required?
helmet
gloves?
shoes?
does your car have to have all the seats/bumpers glass etc etc.
i mean if you have a cracked windsheild.. a small crack. but a crack would they let you run?

All that's required is street-type safety equipment, plus a helmet. Stock seat belts, no cage, street clothes, bare hands are all the norm.

Seats, as long as your driver's seat is securely mounted you'll be fine.

The car should be in good working condition though. Cracked glass might not be OK.

I've autoXed with a big ass chip in my windsheild... it wasn't really a crack though. If it's small then maybe you could try filling it with some windsheild repair kit??

I've autocrossed with a windshield that wouldn't pass vehicle inspection before. It shouldn't be that big a deal...as long as you have a windshield. It's not a really a safety issue b/c windshields don't shatter, they just spiderweb.
Stuff like gutted interior and missing body panels would probably just knock you out of stock class...like into a Modified class, which really don't want to be in if you want any hope of being competitive.
Stock seatbelts, seats, a SA95 (maybe SA2000 by now) helmet, and you should be good to go as long as the car is in safe operating condition: all lug nuts, seats/belts bolted down securely, no major fluid leaks, etc.

And don't forget about the battery tie down. it should be completely secure. no movement at all.

what about tires? do you have to have a certain ammount of thread? or they dont check..

side question.. is it rare that there is a collision at these track events.. cuz i mean sh*t happens.

Awww man, that sucks. I have never seen any colisions (although I came really close to being hit once by a sideways vette), but **** happens. Generally though, auto-x is really safe. I remember reading somewhere that statistically you are more safe at an auto-x event than you are commuting to work, which I wouldn't doubt one bit.
