Questions about Smog (in CA, not about SR)
bought myself another 240 (hatch) so I have some questions about SMOG in CA.
*I have the stupid engine light on and it gave me a code 32 for EGR function, I've heard of people getting this code and not ever figuring out how to get rid of it. So can I pass smog with the engine light on? *I remember reading somewhere about some stuff you can put into your car just before Smog, and it helps out a lot. Does anyone know what it is called? *1 more thing, my hatch is an auto and probably 75% of the time, reverse does not work, I have to keep going to park, then Reverse to make it work, will that be taken into consideration for my car passing smog? Thanks for any advice in advance. |

Take out the gauage custer and pull the "check engine" light bulb out, that dumb egr code is a pita to figure out.
As for the tranny not going into reverse, that wont make a difference, has nothing to do with smog. I will have an auto tranny out from my currect auto 240, if you would like to take it off my hands, PM me Last edited by Kid Zelda; 02-27-2003 at 10:11 PM.. |

Don't pull the damn MIL bulb. You'll never pass smog if you do. Check your EGR valve for proper operation (does the diaphragm lift when you rev the motor?) Also check ALL of your vacuum hoses. 99% of the time, a hose has fallen off or has cracked through. Also, check to make EGR temp sensor is connected and working (check the voltage on it. If it's not working right, unscrew it from the manifold and clean it.)

When I got my car smogged I had gone to a garage that also did smog. It didn't cost a lot and it was a visual inspection with a sniffer. They also checked the gas cap, they did a pressure check. That was it on that end. As far as your check engine. I would just do a real good once over. Take the time to check everything in the engine bay and the wiring for your sensors for the exhaust system. Myself, I got rid of that crap shortly after the inspection but to clear up and concerns, it always helps to check things out and make sure they are clean, (the wiring is good and the sensor tips are clean).
