I have a clifford. I can't tell you exactly how well it works but my car hasn't been stollen. The keyless entry rocks if you have a s13 [very convienient]
Edit: I got the clifford because of the huge amount of compliments that were given to it from alarm installers. So if they trust it I felt I could too.

I just don't make my car look worth breaking into. Best defense you can (or can't) buy!

I generally regard car alarms as not effective enough to be worth their price, but that's just me. . .

there was a thread on another board talking about high-endish car alarms...and one looked really good..it was a 2-way fm system with a ton of outputs and a built in turbo timer. i can't remember the name of it for the life of me...if someone can spark my memory please do. also it was a system not widely avalable online...they only sold to authorized installers i think. starts with a C....

Compustar, but it doesn't have a built in turbo timer AFAIK. It has a "turbo" button, which just makes it so you can use the remote for two different cars. I think they just thought it would be cool to put turbo on the remote =)

Let me tell you from experience, the best defense against getting your car stolen is to be very careful of who gets access to the car. An alarm is fine to guard against the guy randomly trying to jack a car on the street, but no matter what kinda alarm you have, if you take it to a shop to get something installed and the guys decide they want your car, they'll take it. Basically, never leave your car at a shop unsupervised unless you REALLY trust whoever's working on it. In case you guys don't understand what I mean, here's an example: I'm familiar with a shop that would actually cut your alarm wires in a way that allows them to walk up to your car later on the street, strike two wires that they've led under your fender together and open up your car. Also, when filing out any work order at an audio or performance shop, don't give your address and take the registration out of the car before leaving it with them. Sound paranoid? Damn straight. But if I had known this a while ago, I'd still have my Ac Legend *sheds a tear*

Compustar

I plan to get one once I have invested some good money into the car. It also has a errorless remote start for 5-spd cars. The only problem is that you have to get it installed by an authorized dealer to activate some features...or something like that.

Unless you want to buy one off e-bay (if possible) and figure it out yourself.

i think the alarm u guys are talkin bout with the built in turbo timer and stuff is hte aladdin alarm...however i heard that this alarm is crap...as for myself i got a viper 500ESP alarm on my car...actually jus got it installed the other week because my friend is a viper dealer and gets them for cheap and he gave one to me for christmas and installed it in my car for free...gotta love hook ups...oh yeah as far as remote start for 5-spd cars, idk bout the laws where u guys live but here in hawaii it is illegal to have remote start on a 5-spd cars and most alarm shops here wont install them

A good friend of mine in the Honda/ITR camp said that one of the moderators at honda-tech (I think) was one of the design engineers for the compustar lineup. That guy said that the alarm was not designed very well (easy to bypass) and to go with something else like a Clifford. This was about 6-8 months ago so maybe they've worked out the kinks in the design by now.

This is of course an opinion so don't use it as a sole basis for decision...

Also, any alarm is useless if the install is done poorly...make sure whoever installs the alarm for you mounts the brain of the alarm out of sight (which usually means removing the whole dashboard to place it in a secure location).

i just reread the compustar site..and under the 2WSS there is an option for the turbo timer. but it reads as if you need the remote start module for it to be functional.

I got a viper 550 with remote start (putting it in tomarrow) and it worked well before in other cars ^_^
I had a python before that that worked really well too

Try to install it yourself and you'll save a ton of money(spent 120$ on mine plus some $ for connectors and a bit of wire), and get a much more secure system because you'll be able to install it in the safest (hardest to get to) locations... alarm shops (NOT ALL)usually need to do things quicker so they pick "typical" locations in the dash that are easier to find, and they dont exactly hide the wires all too well, so i'd be better to spend some time and do it yourself and hide every wire and loom everything along with stock wiring.

clifford and viper are both made by DEI btw
