I've seen a lot of talk about teh 300ZX brake swap.  Some people are using the N/A brakes, some are using the TT brakes.  What's the difference, and whick one should we be using for our 240?  I mean, I know about trimming the splash shield, and new lines, but does anyone know which caliper will match up best with the stock 240 master cylinder, volume-wise?  My car is 5-bolt S14.  Thanks for helping to narrow my salvage yard search.

Hey man.  The 91+ 300zx brake calipers are all 30 millimeters wide.  So get anything after '91.  And the na calipers were cast iron, that weighed about 25 pounds each.  They were supposedly stronger, as far as warping, and heavy as all ####.  I got '91 tt calipers, which were aluminum, and 6 pounds each.  I also got them from autozone.  I paid $55 for each caliper, and a $60 core charge.  I tossed my 240sx calipers in the box, and nobody was the wiser.  I chose autozone, because they gave me a lifetime warranty on my calipers.  That way, if they do warp, I can get new ones, free.  I think a junkyard is a bad idea.  I looked in FL junkyards first, but they were the same price, and rusted, and ugly.  I bought remanufactured calipers for the same price.
But then when you get to the middle of '92, even the tt calipers were changed into heavey cast iron.
If you need anything else, either post or email me.  Or even catch me on AIM.
-Jeff

The '90-'92 were cast aluminum and '93-'96 were cast iron. &nbsp;The cast iron units don't weigh 25lbs a piece! &nbsp;I know this for a fact, because I have a brand new pair of cast iron TT calipers from Nissan and I just weighed them in at 6lbs a piece. &nbsp;And yes, they are cast iron, because a magnet won't stick to the aluminum ones. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Uh-huh! Look at that now! :biggrin:

Hey, 270, what's all the stuff Marty's got on his. I liked the stopping distance :biggrin:. I'm also looking to upgrade my breaks. No reason why now, my stuff is still sloooow... But yeah, what do you all prefer?

You can also use the newer Q45 brakes. &nbsp;Cheaper then the Z32 brakes. &nbsp;

Great! I also heard of someone doing a J30 rear diff swap on a 240. I'm not sure where I've heard of this being done, but it's on one of the sites I visit with installs.

S13grl, I'm not sure if you are aware of it, but you could also use the rear diff' from a Z32 n/a. &nbsp;Should be strong then the J30, plus sone of the J30's have a lower gearing, so it will take longer to speed up, unless you want to save gas.......

Z32 n/a diff' sell for around 250-400
mind you, you'll still need S14 VLSD flanges

That's true. I thought about that too, but I think someone once mentioned that it wasn't possible because of what I don't remember. We had an LSD topic a while ago. We had almost as many of those and as many discussions as we do about the SR20DET swap. And this was from August only, I don't even wanna think about before. So... I'll look into it later.
