KA Can't rev past 3K

1992 240sx stock.

When I was driving it home after buying it I could not rev the car past 3000rpm, the motor was missing horribly and it needs a new timing chain, so I didn't mind the whole not being able to rev past 3K thing.

Yesterday I was reading some posts about my HUD and saw some other people mention this thing about not revving over 3K something.

Here's the thing. My engine is being replaced saturday with an 80K mile 1991 engine/trans, will this fix the problem with the revving or is this a problem in the computer or other component?

TIA

Sounds like a fuel problem... check the fuel pump and filter.

or the MAFS is toast. to check:

start car
let idle
unplug MAFS
if idle smooths out, MAFS is toast

Gotta get use to the initials that people use... are y'all talking about the mass air sensor thing? Would this be on the engine being swapped in? (complete engine from car to car) How much is a new one?

Mass Air Flow Sensor. It *should* be with the engine you bought, but it might not. Did you get the intake tube all the way to the airbox? The MAFS is connected to the airbox with rivets.

Like I said, the engine I "got" is still in a car, it will be a swap from car to car, so I will have everything.
