musicians?

anyone here play and/or is in a band? what kind of gear do you have?

i play bass guitar and upright bass in an amalgam of funk, jazz, metal, rock, hip-hop, and r&b bands.

my basses:
Warwick Streamer Stage 2 5 string
Warwick Thumb 6 string fretless
SX SB75 4 string Jazz Bass copy
Engelhardt EM1 upright

amp 1:
Furman RP8
SWR Interstellar Overdrive preamp
Raven Labs MDB-1 mixer
Bellari LA120 tube compressor
Carvin DCM1000 power amp
SWR Goliath Sr. 6x10 cab

amp 2:
A.M.P. BH-260
Avatar B112

guitar stuff:
OLP MM4
1930 Slingerland acoustic jazz guitar
Peavey Rage 158 (for when i have to ROCK!)

all i need is a decent envelope filter and another 112 cab and i am DONE. then it's time to start working on the 240.

Wow, you got some nice stuff

I have:
Jackson 4-string and a crate amp (I think its actually a keyboard amp but it works pretty well)
Ovation Celebrity.
Mapex drum kit w/Zildian cymbols
a few guitar effects pedals
Peavey Monitor amp 260 series (old)
Roland M-160 line mixer
A few Audio-technica mics

Band fell apart when I started at Full Sail. I haven't played much since then. Sometimes I get to whip out the bass for labs at school, but not much.

Doesn't really matter cuz I suck!!!

EDIT: question, is playing an upright much different than playing a fretless?? you just inpired me to go practice!

it kind of depends. if you're a really big dude and the electric bass feels small to you, then it probably won't be that big of a jump.

however if you're normal sized, yes, it's a big difference. string tension is much higher (60+ lbs on eash string!), notes are further apart, strings are higher off the fingerboard and you have to really press them hard to get the note to sound. the first time most people play the upright for more than 5 minutes they end up with serious blisters.

but it's worth it

Upright bass rules. I love the sound of it.

I have Mapex drums (used to be a drummer), used to play trumpet, and I have an Ensoniq SQ1+, Alesis Quadraverb, Cakewalk. I used to make electronic music. God, I need to get back into it. I used to have a guitar but I never played it, haha. My dad plays guitar. He plays music on the weekends too.

I can play Bass and Guitar, Bass better then the 5 sting. Its been some time since I've been playing but can still strike a tune quite well. I have some cheap Bass guitar and a replica something 5 sting electric and acoustic guitar, never had the $ to dish tons of money for guitars though. Long ago me and a few friends were going to start a band, we had everything but someone who could sing hehe

I ventured off into beats later on and started making music with computer synths and whatever I could download at the time. Later still I got into techno/trance and started spinning it and got damn good but lost interest as popularity and stereotypes grew on the whole techno scene. I had always listened to rap and bought a few records and attempted to mix rap r&b, etc but it was just way to hard for me to learn and I lacked the fund to feed my desire.

My friend is very good with freestyles and has a good style for a Rap Rock group but I sold my tables and couldn't learn rap rock mixing. So maybe someday when im 50 and want to rekindle my youth we will start a garage band! bwahha

My DJ Setup was...

Technics 1200M3D
Pioneer DJM300S
Ortofon Nightclubs

No idea what brand my guitars are... and my Amplifier is Ghetto. Of course I had access to all my dads equipment from the 60's-70s that he still had from his band.

I played in Jazz and marching bands from age 10-16, and can play any percussion instrument you put in front of me as a result. Due to my natural need to learn to do stuff better, I learned to mix with turntables (I have Gemini XLBD 110s and some mixer I can remember the name of right now- Thanx Jim Beam) and I am creative enough to know how to rhyme and a caribbean upbringing (from ONE grandparent) makes me think I can chat in Patois and do reggae too. I guess people may say I'm kinda talented, but I put alot of it to waste by being so damn lazy.

i was gonna make a new post about this, but then i remember the search function and found this one, so ill bring it back from the dead....

i play bass, guitar, and other stuff.

i have a Fender Strat, black w/ black pickguard and black fender accessory kit, Seymour-Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails bridge pickup, and Seymour-Duncan SCR-1 Cool Rails neck pickup. (my guitar is more suped up than my POS car haha)
CRATE amp
Ibanez 5-string electric bass
Fender 5-string Jazz Bass
nylon-string acoustic guitar
Roland XP-10 keyboard
Behringer MX 602A mixer
AKG C2000B microphone (i used it alot back in HS, my friends used to make underground hip hop stuff which i produced and recorded, but i was always more into rock/punk)

hmmm, any other musicians in the Nor-Cal area wanna get together and jam sometime? i know one of the local 240 guys, Jeff (BlackFox) plays guitar pretty well, and MrMigs is the druminator (but he's down in LA now), is there anyone else around here?

This link is not too old...so I will post..

Trombone, Bass guitar.

Bone since 1969, bass since 79.

Studio production since late 76, and studio mastering since 1979.

I still have my own facility too...so if you want me to fatten up some tracks to broadcast quality, bring them on. I will do each one for about the price of an oil change.

I actually am liscensed to sweeten your favorite CD for demo purposes only.

Full facility.

There, I spammed!

(shameless lil' ole' me.._

Yeah, I play the trombone too (primary instrument since 1987) and all major horns (requirement in college), Piano (prefer the lossless sound and precision of grands to uprights), and alto, tenor, and bari. sax. It would be mostly a jazz (big band, fusion, acid, freestyle, and open-style) thing. Piano is classics and some ivory banging improv. Part of the music education stuff, you know, director.
