Brake Upgrade

I have a 89 s13 coupe and i have stock oem pads and rotors . Now that there begining to wear out. And i wanted to start participate in drift events. So I wanted to upgrade. But i have a tight Budget. Should i get drilled or sloted rotors with hawk pads ? What would you guys suggest

Well drilled generally makes the rotor weaker but it ventilates the brakes allowing it to release hot. Slotted rotors cause the rotor to generate air blow to cool the brakes but the drawback is that it reduces your stopping power cause you have a lower area of grip from the caliper.

Personal preference is slotted.

i have slotted/drilled brembos on my fronts because they were free. when they inevitably crack/shatter, i'll get new brembo blanks.
instead of wasting money on fancy rotors that won't really do anything, upgrade your brake lines and get good pads. get an autozone caliper rebuild kit. get your rotors turned.

...did Axxis stop making Metal Masters? it looks like neither Autozone or Advance sell pads i'd put on my car anymore.

Good pads, lines, and fluid. If you can lock the brakes up now then you've reached your braking threshold already, nothing bigger will be better. You can also invest in better tires, as the traction limits of your current tires will determine how well the car stops.

my friend runs stock bt uses hawk pads the HP+ or HPS cant remember. he say's they work fine. but my set up is q45 front stock rear with drilled and slotted q45 rotor and hps pads with stock lines. it's pretty good in braking imo, bt hey everyone has thier own opinion

stay stock and get the HP+ pads if they make them for stock if not
then the HPS!

+1 for Q45 front brakes. if you get lucky you can pick up a set of calipers from the junkyard for $24.

all you'll need in a stock S13.
