why do people like 240's?

im just wondering why people have come to love there 240's.

all i can come up with is rwd. woo hoo, grab any awd car, like a cheap turbo dsm, disconnect front driveshaft and it will shiiit on your car (stock) and it handles as your rwd would.

a good driver can drive any car fast, a loser would blame it on the drive format

as for styling, my neighbors mx-6 looks real close

240's are nothing special

so why do you own 2 of them? i imagine people like them because its an affordable sports car. one of the last affordable rwd sports cars. but i like mine for many reasons. 1. its not like every other car on the road, 2. the potential of the car. great power and handling potential, 3. looks. the car looks really nice.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

You don't really believe that, do you? Pop the front half shafts out of a DSM and it's still a front-heavy dressed up Galant.

I like the 240SX because it's a good car.

Being rear-drive is nice, but I've driven/owned a few fast FF cars and I like them, too. It's a different driving style, but for this performance class of car FF works well enough for most purposes.

Go to 240sx.org, read the magazine articles reviewing the 240SX when it came out. They compared it to nothing short of the Porsche 944. It's a nice, tight, balanced package. A little behind the times these days, but for the price, good.

There are cars that I'd rather own, but they either cost more or aren't practical for me. Porsche 944, RX7... maintenance nightmares. Miata... I park outside, so no convertibles. I would have bought an SW20 but I couldn't find either of the models worth buying (turbo, or an N/A without the t-tops).

So the S13 fit the bill nicely.

true you made some good points, but

#1. not like every other car on the road, fortunately they no longer make them, but if they were making them they would be the next civic/integra

#2. potential? that means nothing, if by potential some dude in japan built his car and you are willing to pay through the ass to get a fast or good handling car, than yes it does have potential, but than again so does my neighbors kia sephia, with enough money ( like to make a 240 FAST)

#3. looks, you got me there, it does look nice, almost as nice as a mazda mx-6

you seem pretty aggressive....

why do people like them? Because it's fun to drive and this is for a variety of reasons. It's light, it's rwd (this makes it more fun to drive yes). it has decent power and an okay redline. At the same time, it's practical, because it has four seats (unlike an RX7 or MR2). And it has more potential than cars in it's class (AE86, NA RX7, NA mr2 or NA supra).

I don't love mine....too common among other reasons, but i don't deny i like it.

Your point about a good driver driving a slow car fast is a common one......but who wants to drive a boring car? Why drive FF when you can drive FR? If it's just for the challenge that's silly. Drive what you enjoy.

Driving a slow car fast is one of the reasons I love the 240SX.

It's limits aren't all that high... but it's such a nicely balanced and controllable car, that it's enjoyable to drive aggressively even if you're not moving all that rapidly.

I much prefer this type of car to something like, say, a Camaro, which is fast as hell (in the straights AND the corners) but like wrestling a drunken bear to drive.

#1 were they ever like every other car on the road while they were making them?

#2 potential is more satisfying than other cars, don't be an a$$hole w/ the kia references to waste time

#3 honestly, if you were serious about the mx-6 then you wouldn't spend time posting on a 240 board

be serious about your words. i'm no better by posting this, but this will be the last. damn booze.

I like how it accellerates.
I like how it handles.
I like how it feels.
I like how it looks.

There's a lot more I like about it, but I don't want to write novels. You can argue these points to death if you want, fact of the matter is it is the biggest bang for the buck in low-cost rwd sports cars.

a "front heavy dressed up galant'? are you retarded? ( nothing against the retarded people veiwing this post)

yeah, its really easy to confuse the 4-door galant to the eclipse.
as my car is always confuse for a maxima.

practical?????? so what it has four seats, it has a seat for the driver and passenger. i went to grocery store last week and had truoble fitting a box of cheerios in the back seat.

has more potential than a supra N/A? by how swapping in an sr20det? how is that not equivalent to swapping a 2jz-twin turbo in the supra?

i would without a doubt rather drive the boring( but faster) car than the excitiiing one. ever hit an ice patch, blow your tires and fold the rims, not able to replace the sett-up and have to run on 2 donuts to work the next day???
i had to, and would have much rather have had my civic than my s14 at that time

Jeez. Look it up. The Galant VR4 and 1st gen Eclipse GSX are mechanically identical (except for the Galant's 4WS). The DSM is built on a Galant chassis. I thought this was common knowledge?

The DSM has a transverse mounted engine hanging out in front of the front wheels. With front wheels disabled it will NEVER drive like a properly set up car that was RWD from the start.

"it will never drive like a proprerly set up car with rwd from the start...."

im happy a properly set up rwd will take a stock fwd car. as we all know modifications mean nothing

if youre referring to the STOCK suspension, than why do so many people replace a corectly working suspension with an aftermarket system. ecspecially since the factory settup is so perfect

I don't know why, actually. See sig. People like to have long lists of mods. It makes them feel important.

In many cases it's because 10 years of wear have taken their toll on the original components.

And there's nothing wrong with making a good thing better.

And I'm not talking about one car being able to "take" another. I'm talking about the way it feels to drive.

:what does this have to do with the 240sx?"

read again, im comparing a s14 ( again, in case you missed it the last time S14} to a civic and how i had much more hope in my civic compared to my S14 to get me to work and back safely, due to the drivetrain,

even with equal drivers, a fwd would have an advantage on rwd in the elements

You're skilled at misquoting if nothing else..... I said it's more practical than similar cars, i.e. RX7 and MR2.

Also, the cost of a engine swap on a 240 has gone far far far down in relation to other engine swaps. Turbo swap in the 7, 3sgte swap in the mr2 or 2jz in the supra are all much more expensive.

I have no idea what you mean by the last one. Faster cars tend to be more exciting (unless we are talking european here).

Since you seem to insist on comparing civics and a 240. I find a 240 much more fun to drive because it's rwd. And since you obviously have a problem with rwd, tell me, why are all performance cars rwd? With the exception of rally vehicles (which are still suprior in poor weather to your precious fwd), all high performance cars are rwd.

If you don't like 240s, that's fine but no need to misquote people.

My profile fails to mention the 20 years I lived in Upstate New York. Winter driving is worse here anyway... more freeze/thaw cycles means more ice. And we don't have decent snowplows.

"even with equal drivers, a fwd would have an advantage on rwd in the elements" means you don't know how to properly drive a RWD car in winter, or you wouldn't say that. FWD is better in snow for inexperienced drivers for the same reasons FWD is better in other conditions for inexperienced drivers.

yeah a t/t 2jz motor will cost more, but probably not too much than a sr into a 240sx. but you put 240s' and supra N/A's cars into the same category. with any amount of money 5k, 10k. 50k, the supra will always be better handling and faster than 240, if both prepared by equally prepared builders

GM? Nah. It's a Mitsubishi chassis (again.. the late '80s Galant) with a Chrysler body.

They're not bad handlers - for what they are (a heavy FWD or FWD-based-AWD car). Any attempt to make it feel like a 240SX will fail. It may be faster, but that's not an issue.

GM, Chrysler, etc. tend to melt together in my mind. I'd still take a well balanced, light, rwd car over a DSM any day on the track.

i'm sorry, this is the worst threat of all time.

kia? potential? wtf are you smoking?

DSM handle as good as a 240 stock? riight...

AWD without front drive shaft = rwd... uh....

am i reading your posts wrong? or do you just like acting like you know nothing?

SR20 swap into a s13... $3-4k, hell, i've seen SR powered s13 goes for $4-5k

have you ever looked into engine swapping in a NA supra? do you have any idea how much that costs?!?

"yeah, its really easy to confuse the 4-door galant to the eclipse.
as my car is always confuse for a maxima."

sorry, BUZZZZ, WRONG. the right answer is the altima.

why do i love my 240?

no matter what stage of tuning my car is in, it will always have near 50/50 weight balance, rwd, awesome suspension geometry, and the feel of a sports car.

btw, i also think the mx-6 is fugly. body is long, horrible front and rear ends, it looks like someone took a probe and beat it with an ugly stick. but thats just me.

name calling and rice-bragging? i dont belive i did any of these. if i did either of these, if i did let me know.

i simply wanted to know why every one else likes and enjoys the car i do also. why do you like your 240's. only nismoner acyually answered the question

240's arent that special, there are faster, cheaper or better handling cars out there. i stated that dumb statement because im just getting tired of the 240 is almighty attitude, they are great cars i agree, thats why i own 2, but they are not the best, but when i go out with my fiance and am asked "that got an SR"
2 times on one evening by people i dont know. those are the same people that buy up a dying breed of good cars and throw sr's in it and never fully appreciate the car for more than a over-hyped conversion that has been around before the hype, and will be around long after.

why do you like your 240, i was hoping no one said so i can throw on supra tails.

i was trying to start a debate, not a fight, for every almost every answer given, it could have been read of a mag cover of the last 6 months.

i apologize, i will enjoy my cars and not ask anyone elses opinions again

dumbest thread of all time. you must mean in the 3 months youve been a member? what happened your back order to SCC arrive real late?

do research on the N/A supra swap. my brother in law did the swap in his sc300, not exactly the same, but in all important ways similar

Look rookie, the 2jz swap into a N/A Supra/SC is more expensive than an SR swap into a 240. PERIOD. END OF STORY.

now to answer your question.

I like my 240 because

1) it's a fairly priced FR car.

2) it has decent handling from the factory. nearly 50/50 ratio c'mon now, you gotta love that!

3) it has decent speed from the factory

4) it's not a very common car

5) it looks good (and this goes for all s13's and s14's). It's one sexy beast, baby, yeaaah!

6) good aftermarket support

7) excellent potential (yes, every car can be made better with money, but.....well, you guys know what i mean.)

Now of course the 240 isnt the best car out there, but IMO, its the best bang for the buck in its class.

i like my 240 because its fun to drive, it sounds good with out exhaust(i have no resonatr, resonator pipe, and a custom short ram intake where my battery should be), its faster than alot of other cars on the street,it has many options(i.e. sr swap, RB SWAP!!!!!, ca swap, turbo ka) its rwd so i can get loose around corners(and hit curbs) its a very reliable car(the only problems I have are ones i create) i love the way the 240 looks its jus soo clean(unlike the spaceship looking mx-6) its big enough to drive 4 frends arounds, it has alot of aftermarket for things that matter like suspension and speed, there are alot of 240 owners t hat are willing to help(zilvia!!) it is a somewhat rare car around where i live, and one of my top reasons is i love the way the interior seems to be built around the driver it makes me feel secure, you know what i mean like how our dashboards are and the arm rest on the door is at the perfect place. ok well thats my answer and i dont think we need to bother with s13rookie its givin hes a moron.

Woah... what a nonsense thread. If you don't like your 240sx, sell it and stop nagging people here.

That said, I love my car. I adore it for:

1. the FR layout
2. the look
3. the sporty interior
4. the popup headlights
5. the handling
6. the power
7. the fact that's it's not another modified honda/acura
