SR Head Knock!!!!!

Ok so last week a friend of mine blew the HG in his stock redtop, so i took the time to do it right and replaced it. Upon start up it started knocking from the head. I did turn the head upside down to clean the mating surface, could i have got air in one of the lifters? It seems to be coming from No. 2 intake side.

Anyways, my question is what do i do now? The motor was solid b4 i pulled the head of. not any kind of tick, knock, noise, from anywhere at all. If i bleed the lifters and it doesnt go away then what?

I am pretty mechanically inclined but this one has my head spinning. any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks

a lifter should not knock at all if properly installed and just has air in it. It's more of a loud tick. The first step which I don't know if you have done yet is to pull the valve cover and just see if something came loose upon startup.

I'm assuming you torqued everything to spec right?

yes everything was to spec. didnt add stoppers or anything. all bolts, washers, shims, lifters all went back where they came from.

Bleed your LIFTERS!

Pull these out and put them in a cup of oil, then put a thick Paper clip (that has been straightened out) down the hole of the lifter and pump up and down to get all air out.

Then drop them back into the head.

The only other thing it could be is a bent valve or bad timing chain/oil pressure

Make sure your Timing Chain top guide is REMOVED, the Factory released a recall for this piece
