Gauging interest - SR20 oil pan gasket?

So, I found a place local to me that says they can cut a gasket for the oil pan on an SR20. I'll be taking the factory pan there tomorrow so they can do some measurements.

The gasket will be cut from high-quality silicone sheet, to resist the temperature and the oil. I'm going to experiment with 1/16" and 1/8" thickness.

Anyway, I know most of you will say "RTV is silicone, there's no reason for this" but I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to pay, say, $15-20 to not have to screw with the tube of sealant. Near me RTV is about $8 a tube, and I'm perfectly willing to pay more for less hassle on the install. In theory if you were careful on removal this gasket should be reusable too.

I'm not looking to make money here, just contribute to the community. If no one's interested, no big deal. Mods if this is in the wrong place or out of line (I'm not a vendor after all) please let me know.

FSM recommends using the Super Grey OEM equivalent gasket maker...

The reason why is it creates a perfect seal in between all of the imperfections of the two mating surfaces no matter what the contours are.

I wouldn't be interested. The OEM's don't specify to use a certain gasket maker for no reason. I'll stick to liquid gasket.

And yea its 8 dollars a tube but you can use it at many other places on the engine. I've had the same liquid gasket for a couple years now and still have a half a tube left.

Truth.

However, RTV has not created a "perfect seal" for me. I'm gonna give this a try, we'll see what happens.

I've never had a problem with leaks when using Nissan's silicone. I always cleaned everything very well beforehand though.

Well, I have a gasket. It was even cheaper than I thought. I plan to install in the next few days. If it works, I'll post pics and details. If not, I'll slip quietly back into obscurity.

As long as you clean both surfaces (oil pan & block) throughly and you OEM silicone and DONT OVER TIGHTEN/TORQUE THE BOLTS it will never leak. I've built quit a few motors and have never had a problem with an oil leak from the oil pan ( or any area of a SR block for that matter)

OEM Silicone done correctly FTW !!!!!
