Salt & Rust.
I have a decision to make here, drive the ITR thats never seen snow this winter or drive the 240 which im currently restoring. The 240 has winter tires on it, the ITR has falkens.
I have an underground garage, so would it be best to keep the daily driver outside, or inside? I noticed my 240 trippled its rust last winter, and I kept it outside as it was my daily driver. They say rust stops at a certain temp, but if I keep it in the garage, I could clean it off once a week. What do you guys in the rust belt do to to protect from rust? |

Buy the shittiest car you can find and drive that, then sell it after winter. Thats all i can think of, not worth driving either of the cars you care for in the winter when rust will surely take a toll on them.

I thow this is true, I just hate to spend more money on a temp car.
Im thinking of just driving the 240 and saving the 1k it would take to buy a winter beater- and saving that for a new chassis, however Id have to do something about my nismo tstat and all other associated cooling mods. The 240 is already rotting on the floor boards and rockers. |

LOL@Rust stops at a certain temperature. Wow, I weep for the future. Someone wasn't paying attention in high school chem. Oxidation may slow down at a lower temperature, but nothing is going to prevent metal from oxidizing when its introduced to water let alone SALT which is a catalyst of the reaction. Catalysts being elements that lower the startup energy of the reaction. Ie. Heat = Energy

my car is undercoated. i drove it last winter because i was broke and hungry some of the sus pieces started to get surface rust but i plan on replacing them anyways, btw i worked at a car dealer and washed my car AT LEAST once a week, with a pressure washer, and made sure to get under the car. to this day no rust on the body/chassis

try to find a place that does "Rust Check" undercoating.
it's a red oily lubricant undercoat that smells like cherries. I had my S13 sprayed everywhere, even drilled holes in the door sills to coat the rockers and indie the fenders real good. It made it through a canadian winter with no rust showing up more than two years afterward. The stuff works. ...and to the guy that said fwd is better than a 240 in the snow, you're nuts. I had a blast driving my s13 with summer tires in snow and ice.

^^^that just makes rust come back 25 fold.
Yes, rwd is technically better in the snow, if you have lost control in a fwd car you will know, you slide straight forward into whatevers ahead of you. RWD you pretty much never truely lose control unless the fronts lose grip. |
