it's hard to cut any sort of material to such exact measurements/shapes that would effectively block off the filter from the rest of the engine bay... but your best bet would be to buy some sheet aluminium or CF sheets (apparently pretty easily had, but I don't know for sure or where you'd get this from) and start cutting away. Maybe make a mock-up with cardboard, then use that to trace an outline on the aluminum/CF sheets.
Good luck! |

You'd need to bend the metal around, and weld it so it stays in a circle.
You'd have better luck buying someone's Apex'i Power Intake metal heat shield. If I can't figure out how to get it on, I'll give it to you... but don't count your chickens.. I'm an Engineer at heart. Also, Injen sells a heat sheild. If it works on an Injen intake, it'll work on any other system that the filter sits just after the MAF. -Jeff

I was bored sometime over christmas and tried to fab up a heat shield, but when I was making my cardboard template I discovered it was way too hard, there is alot of stuff in the way. If you want cooler air in there, it is far easier to just duct some cold air from outside the engine with a hose. like this:

You know, if you can't make your own parts, you should ask some of the machine shops in your area. I got turned on to a couple local shops while I was getting my undergrad in engineering. If you can't make the part you want yourself, draw some good diagrams and go find a machinist to do it for you. If you find a good guy that sees on your same eye level you he'll be happy to help you and won't charge you too much either.
The real benefit is that you don't need to have any jerry rigged parts, duct tape, or cable ties in clear view when you open up your hood to show off your engine. Everything will look custom, clean, and will fit perfectally. You might want to give it a shot. Good luck, Matt |
