loose flywheel
I had all my flywheel bolts loose when my friend and I took out the motor today because it was knocking. Plus, it had a hard time starting. I check the connecting rods but they're all fine.

Huh? What the hell are you trying to do? If youre flywheel bolts are loose and they happen to come up, itll fuck up your clutch and jam it (youll be stuck in gear or out of gear).

your flywheel is spinning at high rpms, if ALL the bolts are loose than its not going to be centered on the crank.. rotating at high rpms will warp either the flywheel or the crank. this is why you loctite and torque your flywheel properly.. |

If it's an aluminum flywheel, throw it in the oven before you install it. Some of the brands, Fidanza iirc, has too tight of an interference tolerance and needs to be heated before installation. Double check torque after cool down.
If it's a stock flywheel, you need to learn how to torque and use locktite. The flywheel should be a tight fit on the crankshaft. You might want to sand the inside of the flywheel if it's corroded, if it's clean I wouldn't touch it. Inspect your crank and flywheel for damage. A loose flywheel will sound like the lower end is falling apart, however it's not rythmic, it's random for the most part.

Good to know I wasn't the only one. I had a loose one a while back and it was loud. It was obvious where the bolts were hitting too. The mating surface of the crank and flywheel were eatin up pretty bad but I still drove around like that. I replaced both since I did my rebuild because my mechanic said it could throw off the balance.
