How can i get water out of my engine??? Hit a huge puddle w/ CAI

I was pulling into my campus' west parking lot and couldn't see this massive puddle. I ran through it at about 10mph and suddenly the car lost power. The car gave a big fit when i tried to restart it, but it finally cranked. I had to have the gas floored and finess the clutch for it to drive (it only felt like it had 20hp). Well before i could get to a parking spot it died again and wouldn't restart. At first i thought i had shorted out some fuses, b/c the starter wouldn't even make a noise. After about 3hrs i tried to restart it to no avail. The starter would crank for not even a second, then it would stop.

Hopefully i haven't completely killed my engine. Please provide all sugestions on what i can do to fix this problem. I am going to get it towed back to my house and try and blow out some of the water if there is any in the cylinders w/ a vacuum (probobly won't work)

please help me out

DbD

pull your sparkplugs and crank the motor a bit.. if you have compressed air, that's a good time to use it.

KA

Deja Vu??
I had that same problem yesterday, and had to get towed back to the shop. ****in 2" deep puddles!!
Anyways, remove your spark plugs, turn your key for a while, that should blow out any water in the cylinders. Also if you were trying to crank the engine for awhile, check the battery, it could need recharging, mine did. Then once you crank it for about 20 seconds, remove your intake piping and wipe out the throttle body as best you can. Then get some throttle body cleaner and spray it into the Throttle body. After you replace the spark plugs, leave the intake off and crank the car until you get a good start, the car should die after one full rev into the 5000s, oh while your starting it push the gas to the floor. /Once you get this good start, put the intake back on and bolt it up. The car should start fine now. Yes change the oil too. Also before you put the intake filter back on clean it thoroughly and let it air dry in the sun. I used a spray nozzle on my garden hose to clear out the dirt. Compressed air would probably be better if you got it. Well hope this helps.
Good luck.
Oh yeah, you're engine should be fine, unless you soaked up like a quart of water which is doubtful.

thanks for all the help. I used my vacuum to dry out some of the water (had it on blow through the spark plugs). I finally got some jumper cable so i could turn the car over without the plugs in. I then replaced the plugs and it gave me one hell of a time trying to get it to start. I fianlly got it going with alot of help from the gas pedal and reved it up to 5000 a few times. It would not idle by itself so i had to control that and had it chillin at 3000 for a while. It was sputterin and popping, blowin grey smoke out the back, black soot went flyin, and black smoke also came out the exhaust. I never got it to rev smoothly. I am going to put my intake back on and attach all the vacuum hoses to see if that makes any difference. Maybe i just need to let it blow out all the water in the exhaust??????????

oh well i will get back to you later

Wow That sucks for your friend. I just put the intake back on and installed all the vacuum lines. I had to use jumper cables again to get the car started, but once it did, ran like nothing happened. The ecu had to relearn how to idle for a few seconds but all was good after that.

I just don't understand why yesterday was so freakin bad (waterlogged my engine, locked my keys/wallet in car, left headlights on, got soaked on the way to class, took two hours for pop a lock, [I did somehow manage to talk to this really hot girl, tell her about my day, and she offered to buy me a beer if i was still sitting here when she gets out of class. I never saw her again!]) But today i got so lucky (my car started up and ran fine, chilled around the house today, I actually got to drive a car with air conditioning [moms accord], got out of class early today. It just makes me think what did i do to deserve this, what should i change in my life, what haven't i asked forgiveness for, or is this just a really crappy script in the movie of life?

Where do you live at? It rained like a mofo where I live yesterday. Seemed like it is monsoon season down here.

Hey man sorry about your bad luck but I'm glad to see things are working out well with the car now. I'm not sure how well it works but you might want to get the AEM Bypass valve to add to your intake. I have the Injen with CAE and the bypass attached but I haven't hit any puddles that big yet.

Hey Damned, the reason why your ran perfect after you re-installed the intake was because your MAF sensor wasn't connected before. And just to let you know any water in the exhaust doesn't matter, you exhaust will sometimes spit moisture, no biggie. Glad everything worked out okay. Don't forget to change the oil real soon, oh and how did those spark plugs look when you pulled em? Time to change out those too? Just a suggestion.
Sorry to hear about the girl....
