An Insanely Annoying Squeal

This just started for no reason the other day. I am driving to work and I suddenly hear this really annoying high pitch squeal coming from my passenger side outside my car. At first it only sounded when I hit my brakes, so I thought nothing of it, because I just need new brake pads soon. Then, after driving around for about 5 more minutes, it starts making noise when I dont hit the brakes. Now I think it is my rotor shield behind the rotor. So, I pull over at a gas station and look at the shield to see if it might be touching the rotor anywhere. It appeared to be ok, on both sides. Now I am baffled. I am going to spend some time tomorrow taking my wheels off and checking the rotors and brake pads. Is it possible that my caliper pistons could be stuck a little and not retracting totally so it is barely touching my rotor?

Does it sound kinda like a dog getting hit/yelping or like a squealing bearing? If that is so then you probably have a loose or a wet belt.

Definitely check your belts. The same thing happened in my mazda 626...turned out to be the acc. belt. It actually shredded while i was driving...lost power steering

Is the squealing rotational or constant regardless of speed? If it was a belt, I think you'd know it. It's probably just a caliper issue with it connecting against the rotor or a bad wheel bearing.

Bro I got the same prob. It is definately the rotor sheild. I installed all new pads and rotors and it started doing it to me. There is no way it's the belts. I have to look into it as well.

I found out what it was the other day. There is this piece of metal beside on the side of the brake pad. The brake pad was worn down so far that this metal was touching my rotor. I wiggled it off and it is perfect now. From what I could guess it is there to let you know you are almost shot on your brake pads.
