Custom Exhaust
I posted about a week ago that I am wanting to do a custom exhaust with "pie slicing" (i think thats what ruf called it). But now that I was checking out JC Whitney, I can get mandrel bent 2 1/2 pipe for like $5. But what I dont know is, the bent piping is aluminized steel, and the other piping that I am going to be using will be just normal tailpipe tubing (heavy-guage steel). How will these two weld together? I don't want to use it, if it will not weld good together. I would do it all in stainless steel, but it is very expensive and I dont see how it is any better performance-wise.

The different materials are used for their corrosion resistance.
Stainless > aluminized > uncoated mild steel. It might not be a big issue in SC, but up here where they salt the roads, uncoated mild steel will rust out in a year or two. They'll all weld to each other just fine. |
