Pop up Headlight h6054 Options

Figure id throw up a thread here on headlight options..

I had some raybrig multi reflectors i threw on my old s13 with silverstar bulbs and those where the best halogen setup ive ever had, comparable output to new cars today..

even though they where designed for RHD, they where awesome.

I got some Autopal units on the FC

I dont really like them.. they are not as clean as those raybrigs.. no cut off like them, and the output sucks, but Im not sure what bulbs are in them, but I dont know if swapping bulbs would make that much of a difference on the visible output. Or if it could be the difference between "crystal" type headlights and textured lense type?

I want to get another set or raybrigs or something comparable , i just cant spare the cash for them @ retail *i originally got mine a few years ago when i had access thru a wholesale account*
RAYBRIG Multi Reflector Head Lamp H4'

Anyone try the Autopal crystal headlights? 200mm H6054 H4 HID EURO DIAMOND CRYSTAL HEADLIGHTS KIT : eBay Motors (item 330398362483 end time Feb-22-10 17:10:23 PST)

The raybrigs look really nice. The cutoff is really similar to my Hella's.

i swapped the bulbs in my autopal headlights and they look alot better.
The beam pattern is mostly from the lense.. where as those raybrigs, the reflector did all teh work since it was a clear lense.

Im curious how these pilot housings are
Amazon.com: Pilot Performance Lighting WI-HL5A H4 Conversion 6054 Head Lamp, D.O.T/SAE, Color Box: Automotive

Autopal has one too hl-109 at the bottom Autolite (INDIA) Ltd.

From looking at pics of them, they appear similar to the raybrigs i had , you can see a step line for the cut off.. but i wonder if those are any good since i cant find any reviews on those specific lights, just the typical "generic ebay diamond cuts suck"

I don't think the housing (Raybrig) has anything to do with aiming with regards to LHD or RHD. Headlamps for pop-ups sit in a little cage that has an adjusting screw for L/R and Up / Down. You can dial-in the aim using those screws. Heck, even if they were directional, you could just flip them upside-down and they would point the right way, no?

Just some thoughts, I am in no way trying to discount what you're saying.

I like the thread, and glad to see the options out there for pop-up lamps.

Cheers,
C

Channeling for Mike @ CC.com:
Best setup = Cibie e-code housings with competition bulbs and an upgraded wiring harness.

headlights are made to point out and down, even if they are just regular sealed beam type dealies. if you flipped jdm lights upside down, they would point out and up. watch the wheeler dealers about the alfa spider. edd china buys some new housings for it because it had LHD lights on it, instead of LHD.

as far as new housings go, the raybrigs were pretty nice, my friend has a set, and they are visibly better than ebay housings (which he uased to have). the best that are still available are probably hella e-codes or cibie. i hear the cibies are nicer, but i don't have experience with either.

Yay for glare.

HID kits in non-HID housings = garbage.

Most housing arent meant for HIDs, if they are they are pretty expensive, unless you DIY Retrofits from TSX or s2k projectors.

OK?

I'm well aware of that.

What is your point?

Mine was that, that guy spent the dough on Cibie housings, but then put some HID kit in there and ruined his lighting.

Dude could have used the cheapest H4 housings in the 6054 size and have gotten the same damned result, which is glare above the cut off.

Search for posts by me with the keyword 'hella' and 'e-code' (I'd do it myself except I'm posting from my phone). I posted pictures of the cutoff of the Hella E-codes with halogen bulbs. They have a very nice cutoff and are made for LHD. Plus they only cost about $80.

right, which is why it shouldn't be done unless you're going to be doing it properly. this applies to pretty much anything.

here's a picture of the hella e-codes. this is with only one headlight on.

the hella units are glass, but not 'clear', they have fresnel lensing on them, but the cut-off is good.

The flutes on the glass itself is there to help disperse the light so that the light spread is even.

But that's mainly a feature for the halogen lamps, not for HID lights.

Bosch has H4 kit too, but i think they may be little more money than rest of the H4 kits out there
its a lot better than stock lighting, i got some GE nighthawk platinum bulbs with Bosch Kit, had sylvania silverstars before and they blew after a year, so i figure i try the GE's its been 1+years now

Looks like ebay junk. Go with a reputable lighting manufacturer like Hella, Cibie, and I guess Bosch (though I didn't know they did lighting).
