a few problems with my SR install

well we cranked her up and the sound was beautiful but just a few little issues.
first off, none of the interior lights, gauge cluster, windows, etc work. my friend helped out with the wiring and we think its good, but there has to be a problem somewhere. under the dash harness there are two black wires on the brown plug that are not used. there were three and we just hooked up one. my assumption is that they are grounds. do these all need to be hooked in together some how? anybody ever had this problem before?

one more question. i have hicas on my car and i bought a hicas lock kit. the problem is that i don't have a hicas P/S pump for my SR. when installing this kit you have to have the hicas operating in order to put the spacers in though. my question is, could i just power them by the one line on the P/S pump that would usually go to front? just for while i have it in test mode and then i would put the front one back on.

i plan to take all the hicas crap out so buying a hicas P/S pump will not be something that i want to do.

thanks in advance guys.

Yep, you need a return line for the hicas.

Dude, I would make it a priority to make the hicas work. Just me but it is such a nice feature to have. I would love to have the HICAS system myself..and it can be done without breaking a leg or selling a kidney.

Seriously, I have been told more than once that a braket can be fabed to use HICAS with the SR. Never done it but damn, I would not give that feature up...at all.

As for the wiring, something is amiss for the cluster to not work...but the other interior items should have at least an indication of getting voltage. Find the return wires and hard wire them to a battery block if nothing else with fuses. A car stereo shop can help you there with a buss block and fuseable links. Just find the returns and see if you can get 12V running back there.

I know this is a half informed post...but just my 2 cents.

I would guess that you need to connect all those grounds for everything to work. But do like Bill said, hard wire the return wires to the battery and see if you get anything

the problem is that there is nothing on the other side of the plug for them to run into.

The wiring got messed up somewhere. Double-triple check everything and make SURE you did it right. Check the wiring under the dash as well as the wiring in the battery tray area.

If the motor cranks/turns over but nothing in the cabin works, then you messed up the wiring. Just be patient and check it again. Make sure all your grounds are good.

Good luck

the wiring turned out to be perfect. it was just a blown alternator fuse. also, after about an hour of us looking at the hicas system we figured a way to get the hicas lock on there. so now i just have to loop the P/S lines, which i am still trying to figure out the best way to do. i am removing all the hicas lines. so if anybody could help me out with that i would greatly appreciate it. should get the first drive in tomorrow. i'll let you guys know how it goes.
