wont stay running

I'm having problems with my s-13 it wont stay running under its own power if you have it hooked up with jumper cables it runs fine and revs fine, But when you undo the jumper cables after a few minutes the car will die leading me to belive the alternator wasnt charging the batter i pull it off and it tests bad put a brand new one on and the car contiues to do the same thing any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Autozone will do a free on car load check.

I suspect the battery has taken a poop as well.

In this heat, it only takes a few times of a drained battery to kill it. Especially if it is over 3 years old. My last experiences with dead batterys is they die all of a sudden, with little to no warning...Just, give up all the way..and thats it.

I would:

Replace the battery
Replace both battery cables.
Use a new alternator..make sure the belt is snug (1/4 each way deflection)

Have it checked for something draining power with the key off (alarm, stuck relay..etc)

You do that, you should be good to go.

Sounds to me like the alternator is shot, which might kill the battery anyway. This just recently happened to me. First check to see if its the alternator. To do this all you have to do is get the car started then remove the negative battery terminal and if the car shuts off you need a new alternator, if it doesn't stall out, then its most likely your batter.

Try it, then let us know.
