Auto belts. Lots of threads, I got a prob help please?

G damnit.

Today, the belt would not go back with the door closed. Right one works perfect. I forced it back (damn hard to do.) but when I open the door..it will retract and closed, will not go back..drivers only.

Now, switch works. Dash light works, dome light works.

What the fuk gives?

A relay somewhere? The bell is freking at times going down the road.
Any clues dudes...it sucks..Our power was out in the whole town tonight and at ever light...a cop...so I pulled it behind my left shoulder and fooled them./ They will pull you if you do not have the shoulder on.

Please give either some insight..or a page from the FSM or three would be aprrciated. If I dont figure this out soon..it is another 700 bucks at the dealer

My belts and original operation of my car is very important to me.

I'll be getting rid of my entire Automatic seatbelt setup as soon as I strike up a deal for the manual ones (S14's....direct swap in if you mod your B pillar trim with a hole for the pivot bolt). Might not be a bad idea for you at this point....although not having the correct restraint system in newer cars isn't exactly legal....technically.

I've noticed when its hot out, sometimes my automatic belts go haywire and sometimes work....sometimes go in one direction only. I would guess that there is a relay that is getting stuck "on" (which can burn out the motor...as in the malfunctioning PW thread I just responded to).

Whatever you do DONT spend $400 at the dealership. I heard that seatbelts in Nissan cars had some sort of lifetime warranty or something...like....you could always get them fixed for free or whatever. You may wanna check into this...as Ive heard this many times before.

It's not a nissan thing, its some federal statute about safety devices being garaunteed for life. If your seatbelts have failed it can't hurt to take them to the dealership and ask, or hell even call them and ask. I imagine a "copernic" might generate some more info on seatbelt laws. radhaz is on the money.
They're covered under a recall for earlier model 240s, and even later 240s are covered. In the short time I worked as a wrench at Nissan, I saw at least 5+ S13s come in to get new belts.
Either way, I prefer manual belts, and have swapped S14 belts into both my 240s.
I used to be lazy and NEVER buckle the lower belt, which is about the most idiotic thing you can do. You're almost better off NOT wearing the belt at that point.
Anyway, just go to your local reputable Nissan dealership, talk to a service advisor to have them check it out (make sure they're not wanting you to pay ANYTHING). They'll first run your VIN to see if a.) your car is covered under the recall and b.) has the required work been done to your car already.
Even if it has, and it's not working right, they'll replace it again.

Yep, I forced Universal City NISSAN to work on my belts for free several times. At first they tried to deny it, but I slammed them and they fixed them.. over 3 times..

This morning, it worked....but when I got to work...nada.

I will seek a good dealership. The last one I went to:

Dented the car.
Screwed up the brakes by installing the Brake light switch incorrectly making them drag.
Charged a ton of money for something that was not the problem.
Put 22 miles on my car ragging it (reason my clutch went out)

I called them out to meet resistance that was a waste of time.

Unplug the motors for now and use them manually, atleast that way you dont have to deal with its sporadic issues.

Good call....unplug the power to them when they are engaged then just unclick the belts to use them.

i have a set of S14 manual seatbelts and all of the mounting hardware you need to convert over to the manual ones shoot me an email 75.00 plus 6.00 shipping and insurance.

The hardware will work if you DONT plan on having that rear interior on (the upper B pillar cover). If you DO want to keep that, you will need that longer upper pivot bolt for the seatbelt.. and some kind of spacer. Your best bet is asking someone in Canada to take a picture of their seatbelt setup and/or get the parts directly from Canada, well worth the trouble if you ask me.

* well not just canada, ANY country that offered the S13.

i have the stock spacer and bolts but also supply the longer one with appropriate spacer. The only thing that needs to be done to keep the interior trim panel is trim it where the belt comes out ot the bottom piece.
