ground controls

does anyone know what they mean on the ground control website, when next to our 89-94 nissan 240sx it lists :"89-97 240SX (autocross kit, firm ride)"
also it's 0-4" height adj right?
and you can ask for any spring rate...right?

what would be a good spring rate to match with my koni sports?... 8/6.5kg/mm?
any advice would be nice..

like wheres the cheapest to buy em

Correct me if I'm wrong but 8/6.5kg/mm would be a bit stiff for stock koni's, especally if your lowered much.

I think I'd just go with the stock (gc) rates or atleast the stock front/rear ratio.

Personally, I wouldn't even know where to begin when picking custom rates. It'd take a lot of testing I think, or a lot of research and comparison between other springs.

I'd buy them straight from groundcontrol.

Stock f:r ratio is 1:1.

Ground Control like most companies sets their default rates a little front-stiff. For a lowered 240SX it seems to be the way to go... you want to keep the front end off the bumpstops and in the "sweet spot" of the travel. McPherson strut suspensions have a limited range of useful travel before the geometry gets wonky.

GC's off the shelf rates are pretty well chosen, I'd stick with them unless you want something softer. I wouldn't go harder on stock replacement type struts (Koni or KYB).

Actually, I've got some ground controls with AGX. They come with 425 lb front springs and 250 lb rear springs. I changed the rear springs for 375 lb and I'm having no problems with them...

If the front struts can hold 425 lb springs, why would the rear not hold 375 lb springs???

Possibly because the rear shocks have smaller diameter pistons.

You probably should get the konis revalved to work with those springs. I think it's $100 per strut. You'd have such a sweet setup after that. Do you have camber plates? It would be complete with a revalve, camber plates, and rear pillowball upper mounts.

The Koni's you can get through Ground Control are not off the shelf. They are custom short stroke Koni thats been revalved to Ground Control specs by Koni. They are indeed a very sweet setup for our cars.

I could have worded that better. I meant stock ground control f/r ratio opposed to custom, not stock from the factory. That what I meant when I put (gc) but reading it again, it doesn't read the way I meant it.
I had no idea factory stock rates were 1:1...odd.

I guess... but then again, it would make no sense from KYB to do replacement shocks with different f/r valving ratio than stockers, wouldn't it?

Stock S13 Hicas has 110lbs springs all around while stock S13 has something a tad softer... something like 102 all around.

I posted this link in the last conversation we had about custom spring rates. Check out the install:
http://www.240sx.org/links/installs/...ng_choice.html

also, I have done a fair amount of calculations and if you have ridden in a car and you like the spring rate they have, I can tell you what would be equivalent in your car.

check out the other thread about a week ago that talks about custom rates in ground controls.
