my first real custom carbon fiber project...

OK so today I decided to take my clove box off and see how the carpet comes off. Well then I took the carpet off and decided to start a first time CF project. I'm sure this has been done before so any help will be greatly appreciated. I sanded down what was left of the adhesive and carpet's back. I want to cover this over with Carbon Fiber! I think it will look awsome as H3LL! And it's the first major thing I've done to me 240. Ok so here's what I need help with to anyone who's done this...

1.Any really good ways to get ALL of the sdhesive and carpet back off?

2.Were can I buy CF from (I should have thought of that first, but it was really spur of the moment)? Along with that, anyone know any good how to sites on working with CF? I have a mental image of it being something like fibergalss

Anyone have any pics of something similiar to what I'm doing?

Ok so can anone help...heres a pic of were I;m at so far.

Yes, I've always wanted to find out where to get some c/f. How much does it run for, don't you have to layer it?

Hey KuruptR, you wanna buy a Black Panther bearing swap for your turbo? I even got some Bones too!

Exitspeed,

This seems like a cool idea. Please keep us posted on how it turns out, and if you like it a step by step tutorial is always great. No one likes the S13 tweed anyway...

If you want c/f you can get the supplies here:

http://www.carboncomposites.com/

Good luck, you'll need it. There's reasons why alot of people don't make their own c/f parts.

if you just want the look...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=10368

buy vinyl. significantly cheaper, easier to work with. close to same look. some might call you a ricer. do it in good taste, and those people can eat your ass.

To remove the rest of that adhesive I would try "Goo Gone" or "Goof Off" (available at Home Depot in the paint area). If that doesnt work I would use a drill with a wire brush attachment...but be careful not to heat up the plastic too much that it melts.

I've recently started re-covering my radio/shift console bezel with some fake black leather fabric from Hancock Fabric ($3/ square yard). I got some Elmers Spray Adhesive (or you can use 3M spray adhesive)....you can get both from Michaels Crafts.

The only thing to keep in mind is how stretchy the fabric is. This is necessary for the curved parts and angled recesses. Another tip, dont do it all in one night. I would spray a corner, stretch the fabric over it....and use clothes pins to hold the fabric to the plastic....let it dry...and do another corner the next day. If you try to do it all in one night you will get spray adhesive on your fingertips and end up leaving fingerprints on the rest of the covering. The more patient you are, the better it will look.

one of the main reasons for the use of CF in the project is cause I've wanted to learn how to work with it for awhile. Sure I could go cheaper and use leather or vinyl but it's more for the experience. Eventually I'd like my whole interior CF. And not just covered with CF but make molds and mold the parts from CF. Thats my way in the future plan.

Sounds like a good plan. I know that carbon fiber fabric is priced dependant on the thread size and weave style of the threads. I would email the companies who sell it by the yard on the net and ask their advice as to which styles of CF fabric is easiest to work with (stretch, stay attached, etc) to plastic....and what adhesives they recommend. It can get kinda expensive from what I've seen tho. If you are gonna do the entire inside of your car, keep track of what style (pitch, grade...I forget what the term is) CF fabric you use so you can use the same throughout the car and make it look uniform.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

so far I found out that its goes by "k"'s Like 1k is more expensive but lighter and weaker than say a more common 3k. It goes all the way up to a 12k I believe.

Uhhhhh, I got FDK 7's!
Some kid bought a complete today and got speed demons. Yeah, my friend owns a skate shop. I was there today from 2-8. Just kickin it, playin foose-ball. Plus free sh*t like woah!

Ha! We also did the old dollar bill on fishing line today. Cause we left the doors to the shop open all day. So many fools. We had this old drunk guy thinkin he was sneaky, he knew about it after we got him. But he came back several times and on his last time before we chased him off, he got on all fours and hid behind a mailbox, only to be out foxed by the string.

Okay, back to carbon yoyos...I mean fiber.
