S14 - Shakey JDM Kouki Wing
Hey Zilvians,
I got my car back from the shop after they installed the JDM spoiler on my S14... Looks like the back of the spoiler is in tact, but the front of the spoiler is attached with double sided tape ;____;. It's a problem because if I put pressure on the top, it starts wobbling up and down. here's a video for reference: YouTube - Shaky Spoiler What should I do? |

97nismo best advice ever. Added space waste. If possible take off the wing and see if there is a way to get a bolt onto the front of the mount. I would drill and put in a a threaded rivet nutsert thing and get a bolt up into it if possible.

^What he said. Remove from the car with fishing line to separate the 3M DSST. Apply some sort of residue remover to ensure you get all the crap off. Drill, and insert rivet peice on the wing then bolt down.

Make sure you are using 3M molding double sided tape. It should not wobble with the right tape. That's how it's mounted from the factory, one square 3M tape, and that large plastic snap piece, and the nut on the stud.
If you are not using the snap piece, just make sure all the surface area is covered by 3M tape, and it's more than plenty strong. |

I honestly don't think double sided tape was what I had in mind. I JUST got my car back today...Hopefully they can fix it

Nissan uses double-sided tape in it's OEM installation, so in your opinion, Nissan Motor company is unprofessional.
It's the matter of using the wrong 3M molding tape, and over torqueing the nut, and probably no double sided tape around where the stud area. Mine was solid as a rock. |

isnt the jdm kouki wing bolted down with FOUR bolts? 2 in the front and 2 in the rear? maybe the shop didnt bother drilling the two new holes and just use the 2 OEM points? i might be wrong but its worth checking.

looks like they over tightened the 2 bolts. loosen it a bit and reapply double sided tape.
i used the 2 holes from the usdm se spoiler and double sided tape with no issues.

It's two bolts and two giant plastic snap pins. To use the snap pins, you'd have to drill two giant ~20mm hole to install the snap clip.

fillthe extra flat parts of the wing with heavy duty 3m tape (the red tape) then push down and have it set correctly.
IF that still acts up you can weld a bracket under the trunk to stabilize the mounting points.

if you havent figured it out yet, ask a body shop for the adhesive they use when installing quarter pannels, its thick and strong, wont ever get it off with out breaking the base but will perminantly solve issue,,, Also I have a wing like that with nissan partnumbers embeded into it, only one stud per side...

1. you should of mounted it correctly by drilling holes and bolting it to the trunk like they come from factory
2. don't use double sided tape, you need to use 3M panel bond epoxy. That is how I have my HKS Kansai wing mounted since the mounting brackets are not available. http://zilvia.net/f/chat/189969-97-9...6-se-wing.html but your trunk is originally wingless right? take off the wing, remove the tape and make templates where the wing mounts. Then use those templates on the car to figure out where on the trunk you want it. Measure measure measure measure... measure. THEN drill. A good tip is to lay down painters masking tape and mark where you are going to drill. Also drilling through the tape can help reduce the damage that may be done to your paint, but if you did everything right then it wont mater because you will now have a mounted wing. I would now use the double sided tape as a gasket if you do not have one.
