hydraulic lifters maximum rpm?
Whats up guys was wondering what the max rpm on the hydraulic lifters are for an sr20det the head is built with inner and outer springs titanium retainers bc stage 2 cams 3 angle valve job and ras. the bottom is forged too. i dont take it over 7300-7400 rpm ever but have the redline set at 7600 rpm i have a power fc so i can change the rev limit was wondering if its safe to take it to 8000 rpm. i want to know from people who have some experience in this. Are the lifters good to that rpm and what about the rocker arms are the good to taht rpm as well? oh i run a t3 50trim right now but am going with gt30gtx or efr 7064 in the future i got tomei 750 inj a snow performance stage 2 meth kit with a 650cc inj and a 255 walbro i also have a bosch 44 pump i can run inlineif i need too.
sorry for the run on, spelling and long post all answers are appreciated thanks again |

With the redline on the oem SR gauges being 7500 I would assume you would be safe going 500rpm more. I would definitely think of replacing them prior if you intend to rev it up that high often rather then for show

that statement right there has the most influence on the rocker arm failures "known". I'm sure a few of those muddying up the water didn't have completely bled lifters and properly shimmed rocker arms...
I honestly don't have the experience with it. I have my limiter at 7600 and seem to stay off it but another 4-500 is surely more appreciated.

If your clearances are correct, and your lifters are properly bled you don't have to worry about anything collapsing. I don't run that rocker arm stopper BS either putting the correct valve spring in a car that sees high rpm is the solution. A properly functioning hydraulic lifter combined with the correct valve spring provides the pressure necessary to prevent the rocker from popping off at high rpm. A weak spring and high rpm with larger camshafts is what causes float. I'm not too sure about earlier sr's and lifter failure but I know s14 sr's use a revised lifter. I've spun 8k on two different engines more times than I can count with no issue. I don't really see the point of revving that that high though. Yes it sounds awesome and hitting the limiter makes the car sound like a machine gun but my car has a noticeable drop in power after 7000rpm with larger cams. (Kevin)

Better questions are do you really need to rev all the way to 8k? You didnt say if you upgraded the valves too...if you're still running the stock sodium filled valves, you'd still be prone to pull the disappearing valve trick.

I've been running 8000 rpm now forever, plenty of track time...I think all my valves are still there?
