how to prevent rust

Hey I just cut out the hole for the clutch master because I have an auto converting it to manual. Well I am wondering if I just bolt the master to the firewall, will it create a seal to keep the hole from rusting. Or should I just paint all the bare metal that I can see or does it matter. What would You guys do. Thanks for any help.

Just spray some rubberize undercoating on it, it prevents water to get in contact with bare metal. I sprayed that stuff in the wheelwells as well as underneath the car. Works great.

If you want a good answer, but not so practical, coat your Steel parts with a Zinc plating. Zinc will oxidize before steel will, leaving behind a strong ZnO2 layer, and Zinc can change Fe2O3 (rust) back to Fe (Iron). Just something to think about

ok now where would I go about finding this zinc coating. Is it spray on or is it something more involving like the anodizing process. Also Your saying you can change rust back to perfect Iron. How is this true. I would think something like that would be a revolutionary happening like sliced bread or something, but Ive never heard about it before. Could you explain that more. Thanks.

Oh by the way, If I spray on that underbody coating stuff, will it stop rust that has already started eating the metal, or can the rusting process still go on underneath the coating, I am curious because I just bought a beautiful 240 but underneath it is a massive rust pit that probably wouldnt make it through one more salty winter. If I spray this underbody coating on all the parts will it last me a lot longer. Thanks for the info.

What you want to do is to sand out all the rust first before you spray the underbody coating on. If you spray them directly onto the untreated surface the rust still continues to spread underneath, perhaps just a bit slower.

Theres' no easy way to fight rust, it's like cancer cells & they spread like a mutha.

rust

I have an 89 240sx coupe and the underside of my car is a rust pit also. So bad on one part of the frame that it partially collapsed when I tried to jack the car up on the driver side. I plan on having the underside of the car sand/bead blasted to remove all the rust and undercoating - taking the car somewhere to get the frame fixed (they usually just bend new metal over the existing frame to make it stronger), and then taking it and having the underside rhino-lined. My driverside kick panel is bad also, will get replaced the same time the frame is fixed.
