cali vs. nyc

well i've lived in nyc for 23 years, its a great city always something to do. partys, girls, car scene ect.. but im getting tired of it, tired of the same routine, work/school/party/drive.. its seems so blah..

im also graduating. with a b.s. in automotive managment, and i'm begining to see that nyc wont have a job that i can advance in and make a career out of.

so this leads me to cali...

i know most people on this forum is form their. how is it in cali? hows the ecomony their, are jobs stable? hows the lifestyle? im sure its not as busy as ny.

the only negative thing i heard about cali. is that some people come off fake.. no offence, i just hear that they dont tell you like how it is...

Cali peeps are alot nicer than in nyc, but there are some fake ones. All in all, west coast atmosphere is more relaxed than the east coast. For instance, In nyc, you pass people on the street and you rarely so much as look at eachother, in cali (generalization) people are alot more freindly.

I suggest taking a trip
it may not be your thing
traffic jams can be real pain, no good public transportation
takes forever to get anywhere
but on the other hand, you can wear shorts to the beach in January
job situation is like everywhere right now, not so great
as far as the phonyness, yes there's that
my experience is that is usually people that have moved to Cali
weird, seems like they need to prove something
born locals are just pretty laid back

you might consider looking at northern virginia, its not as fast paced as nyc, but still pretty busy. Also, there are jobs there. Why? The major industry in NOVA is govt, so that means a majority of the pop still has good paying jobs, and can afford to spend money on local business. For example, my ex came back from school over break and just jumped in to her old job as a waitress working like 5 days a week. Not many resteraunts now can afford to just hire someone for two weeks. Thats something else to consider.

Unless the figures changed I was pretty sure Cali is on top 5.

States with the highest unemployment rates in December 2008:
1. Michigan, 10.6 percent
2. Rhode Island, 10 percent
3. South Carolina, 9.5 percent
4. California, 9.3 percent
5. Nevada, 9.1 percent
6. Oregon, 9 percent
7. District of Columbia, 8.8 percent
8. North Carolina, 8.7 percent
9. Indiana, 8.2 percent
10. Florida, 8.1 percent

Well your from NYC and you said Cali. California is a fucking state. If you said Socal, that might be narrowing it down a bit but still not a fucking CITY. So you need to figure out where you're thinking of going. LA, SD, SF...figure it out...

Anyways I lived in Socal and lived in NJ, dealt with east coast cats (Philly, NYC, NJ, CT, etc). I think the biggest shit I can say is, theres alot of fucking Wanksta in the east coast. You bring the east coast attitude to socal, your liable to get stabbed or shot at (no fucking joke). Dont wear Red anywhere you fucking go, dont come off as a cocky smart ass to anybody, plan for the traffic (imagine trying to go from bronx to manhattan during rush hour), go enjoy some fucking carne asada burrito and you'd be good.

But in all honesty, right now is probably the worst time to move to cali. Economy is in the shit, job availability must fucking suck and the state is fucking broke. I wouldnt move to cali at this point unless I get stationed there or if I already have a house down there to fall back on.
