TC rod questions
Trying to isolate cause of steering woes. Vague steering, bad tracking, clunking, BUT under extreme breaking and cornering it feels as if my front left wheel shifts backwards a noticable amount. I have put semi-new tc rods and bushing on that side. So I'm trying to figure out what else would cause the movement? Could it be the tie rods? Im not sure that they would allow for movement in that direction. Was looking at Pdm-Racing and they say that it could be the front top bearing mount unsulator? Anyways what would be the best way to check the tc rod, tie rods, and the bearing insulator or anything else it might be? If i jack the car up and fiddle with the linkages and anything moves replace it or what? Any help is appreciated.

hhmmmm..... I don't know. Mine looked bad. They were cracked and had started to ooze a tiny bit. I'm thinking that when I replaced them, they were still pretty stiff. Stiff enough that I doubt I would've been able to move them by hand.

Well the bushing not exactly new (good) and its not yet worn and cracked, therefore it is ~gooder~. Thank you for gracing this thread with you're superior english skills, you post was most helpful in enlightening me to my lacking of proper communication skills. If i wanted to use another word i would have, but prefer to use incorrect wording/grammar at times because it's interesting.
Back to my question, how do i check the other components (emphasis on the strut mount thing) to see if they are worn out? |

Well i inspected the strut mount today and it rotates fine, but there is a small amout of play when pushing and pulling the rubber part. I'm not sure if any play is aceptable. while i was under the car i had my friend turn the steering wheel. There is a small clunk coming from the steering column and the steering gear housing moves noticably from laterally with the steering. Probably around 1/4 inch play. This strikes me as wrong. So other than OEM mounts is there something stronger i can get? I have a feeling I need something stronger than stockm for the type of driving on the roads i do.
