Anyone Ever have an Idol Problem

My car is idoling at 1200rpms. I've checked the timing and the timing is right on the money. The Idol control Valve is set as low as it goes. The throtle cable is as loose as I can get it. The TPS sensor is set as low as I can go yet the car refuses to idol anything less than 1200rpms.

If anyone has any idea of what the problem can be please let me know so that I can try everything. I will try anything and everything to get his car to work.

The car is running great and perfectly smooth. The car doesn't have any thing wrong with it except for the high Idol.

This idol problem is the reason I have not been able to smog my car.

Oh I have checked the compression. it's at 180 in each cylinder. They are all exactly 180 and I even checked with 3 different testers.

Like I said, any and all ideas welcome at this point.

idle

It sounds like you could have a vaccum leak somewhere..it's especially suspect on turbo cars with all the extra plumbing. Is the idle rock steady? Does your car exhibit stuttering/idle drop/other strange symptoms?

It's usually steady a 1200rpm, but every now and then it goes up to about 1500rpm but it never drops below 1200 rpm.

Another thing. My check engine lite just came on when I went to lunch.

Spray some carb cleaner around the lines and see if you see bubbling..or maybe even just one outright unplugged.

As for the check engine light...I can venture a guess and suggest you replace the O2 sensor, but not until you find out what code the computer's throwing at you will you quite know what it's complaining about..even then it may be another item that's causing the malfunction. Doh. These things are a pain.

It's a brand new o2 sensor. Checked the Check engine light code. It's a code 32... The EGR function. The problem is that it doesn't clarify what part of the EGR funciton. Should I just change everything associated with the EGR valve. I have an extra intake manifold that has everything still attached. And I have all the gaskets. Cause I just rebuilt the block and ordered the entire rebuild kit.

nope. everyone idolizes me as they should.

check your vacuum lines by your EGR valve (back of intake manifold)
i bet a shiny penny that at least one of them is rotted/torn through.

Nope did that the second that I found the code, all of the hoses that are there are in perfect condition, and just to be safe I went and bought more and replaced them all. They are all brand new.

i'm just throwing this out there. maybe clean your throttle body with degreaser. there is a write up about it at 240sx.org under FAQ. might solve the idle problems. i did it yesterday with a friend on his 95. when he pressed in the clutch the engine would surge a little and make it idle a little higher for a while. getting all the carbon out solved it.

Thanks for the imput guys. I finally figured it out. It was the secondary EGR valve. The one that controls the vacum that goes to the EGR valve. It was also the Air Control Valve.

After replacing both of those the engine runs smoothly and the check engine lite went away.
