jic tie rod's
alrighty.... I picked up a set of jic tie rod's a while back... i recently installed them approx 2 months or so ago...
i also install kazama tie rod's along with these bad boi's first driving impressions are #1 great deal of extra turn in i am able to do alot of stuff i normally couldnt do... #2 drifting is great due to more steering angle... the bad thing i noticed is that #1 the tie rod end now bangs the front lca badly and i don't like that part... #2 turning the wheel the other way (oppositie of the tie rod portion) the spring / shock combo (nismo shocks/tein springs) will actually get stuck in the shock well.. and... to top it all off... during dd 9 in vegas my car broke its tie rod.. i did not hit anything and it was mid drift when all of a sudden my tie rod rips out of the steering rack... i call up jic and they blame it on improper installation, BS!!!!!! ![]() they cant do shit for me cuz i drift... so basically i am screwed now... and it blows! i need to get a new rack and another tie rod... oiiii! here are some pics that i have enclosed... |

did you use thread lock on it? it doesnt look like it. yeah that would be improper installation.
looks like it came a bit loose and got stripped or something. i dont know why your stuff got stuck too at counter or rubbed. weirdness. my teins never do that sucks man, sorry to hear. btw, good to see you moved out west! ![]() |

bah... Thread lock can suck my *****... if it was properly tq'ed it shouldnt of came out supposedly.. also, the jic's seem to have a lot of steering angle compared to the tein's
and the teins quality at first wasnt that bad.. but now that i've invested in jic and kazama tie rod n ends... i am almost forced to go jic unless i can go with uras if they make them... and auto rnd is a wholesaler/shop/etc... we just about do it all... and yes dousan i am finally on the west coast... hopefully i can get some drift time... but apparently my car is non stop down...

THE LOCK PLATE that's why you MUST use thread lock. if you dont, then you have no excuse for destroying the tie rods. there's a reason URAS gives you locktite when you buy their tie rods (i'm told) i think the TEIN manual mentions it..not sure about JIC, i can check my friendsnext time... |

actually... the locking plate worked with the jic's
but.... jic had no instructions.. it was just... here tie rod figure it out...

reallY/ because the tein wont fit because of the spacer
did you USE the locking plate?? that would have more then likely prevented what happenned. |

Ard- Sorry about your luck with the failed parts. Hit up a junkyard and you should be able to replace the steering rack.
Dousan- Does the Moog (s14) inner tie rods use that locking plate? I know Moog isnt OEM, but I was under the assumption they are OEM replacements. If yes, are those OEM plate locks reusable? thanks, -m

I read the instructions that came with the inner tie rods and Tein illustrated that either the spacer or lock plates could be used. It's better to just get new OEM locking plates, but I believe MOOG includes them w/ the inner tie rods. I know Tein doesn't. Those lock plates are like cotter pins, you could reuse it, but it'll be easier to just get new ones.

I'm thinking it was a improper install. You might have don't something wrong and not known it. And yeah you should have used thread locker, you even have to use it on the oem tie rods. Good luck with replacing the the assy. though. Sucks that that happened.

Sorry to bring up an older post but I will be doing my tein tie rods sometime soon. In the tein manual, it says that you CAN use the spacer but might rub depending on ride height/wheel size/offset/etc. Im assuming it will rub if its LOW, but im not sure what offsets and width and tire size will work w/o rubbing. If not I can always switch back to the lock plate. Will it increase steering angle with the lock plate? Im assuming it will since thats the purpose besides being stronger. This is for a s14 btw.

If you don't use the spacer, you should use the lockplate and your car's turning radius will be the same. The spacer is what makes the turning radius more. Take a look at your steering rack and tie rod. The reason why your rack can't turn anymore is because the inner tie rod hits the rack. When you add that spacer, it allows the spacer to enter the rack slightly and it takes about 1/2" more for the inner tie rod to strike the rack. The spacers effectively lengthen your steering rack. When you install them with the spacers, take into consideration the extra length of the spacers and make the tie rod shorter or else you will be toed in like mad on both sides. |

I just installed my tein tie rods. now im worried. how much loctite are u suppost to put? a generous amount or a little dab will do? and what about the tie rod end, are u supposed to add loctite ther too?

okay well the fender well plastic thing is taken out from rubbing from before. Maybe Ill have to roll my fender or something. If not Ill just use the lock plate.

The back inside part of your front tire rubs on the inner fender well. I don't have nice low offset rims so I don't know if it rubs on the outer fender or anywhere else but I don't think it should.

ok well...i just installed the tein's and in comparison to jic... its a lil bit thinner.. the actual rod... but the tein's are installed.. and this time i used ample ammounts of loctite..... what pissed me off the most is that i had to stop using the kazama s13 tie rod end...

17x9 +15 w/ 225/45/17 bridgestones re750 i THINK he still had the 5mm spacers on too, so might have been 9" +10 I rolled his fenders. perfect. ![]() |
