I had an issue with one of these on my cover actually. I had to cut off the nut using a dremel, then I actually removed all the bolts, and instead of the nut design, I used a standard head bolt and used that all around. The bolt size is like m6-1.0. I think I used 16mm long bolts.

I believe the studs for the valve cover are double ended. If the nut spins with the stud, you may be able to just keep at it and the stud may just back out of the head.

Sounds like they are already coming loose from the head. You will have to loosen them all best you can and then pop the valve cover off and fix accordingly.
