Electrical Guru's sudden electrical issue
Ok just the facts:
Car 1996 s14, KA motor. Got an R.S. Enthalpy tuned ECU and wiring harness from Enthalpy. Disco'ed battery. Wired up maf, and soldered. Installed conversion harness. Fired up the car and let it run for 15 minutes. Went to back out of the driveway and headlights would not come on,With the car off the headlights came on. dash lights came on. My Optima redtop smelled of sulfur and started to vent alkaline fluid. Got a new battery. New Battery did the same thing. Swapped ECU's back to stock and same issue. Disco'ed neg terminal on battery and car cut out in a few seconds. Got a new alternator and installed. headlights came on with stock ecu. Installed enthalpy ECU. headlights worked ok. Car runs great and feels good BUT.... Windows won't roll up, my dash cluster makes a clicking almost as if I was using my blinker, taillights dim momentarily, if I mess with the window switch enough the 'door open indicator beep" comes on. If I get out of the car it shocks me. Checked all my fuses, and underhood fuses everything is intact. Obviously something is grounding, But other than the maf which I have rechecked and the ecu/ wiring harness I have not touched anything electrical. Any ideas where I should start looking? This thing has me quite stumped. Anyone have any idea where I should start looking? |

I would double check your MAF wiring and maybe add another ground to the MAF harness. (i.e. from the maf to the body). Also make sure your alternator is grounded and double check the voltage coming out of it.

You're car isn't super low is it? Could've possibly rubbed through harness in the wheel well.

Nope my car is not super low and as for the maf I've disconnected it as the car was running to see if that would fix the issue. What I'm wondering is if the door open indicator, windows and dash all share a common circuit or anything, I am just stumped.

Well I can tell you right off the bat, the engine harness has nothing to do with the interior electronics other than supplying your gauges with signals to display current RPM/MPH/CTS etc. I'd start else where for the problems you are seeing. Make sure you have enough grounds on the engine/chassis. Also check your connections to make sure they are secure in the ECU area.
