im just letting you know ahead of time, remote start is a terrible idea if its a 5 speed. not to mention i believe its illegal.

if someone has to park your car ever, and they don't know to not put it in gear, and the remote start goes off, your gunna hit someone, someones car, or a wall. its dangerous to have until its automatic.

not to mention if the button accidently keeps getting pressed in your pocket, or it falls somewhere and turns the car on and off a bunch, ur gunna be out of an alternator real fast.

plus, its not needed. especially if you live in palm springs. otherwise its just a show off tool. unless you go to work early in the am. in which case, just go start your car, go back inside, lock it with your extra remote, and unlock it with that remote when you're ready to leave.

You can get remote starts for manuals. I have one and it goes thru all kinds of stupid shit before you can arm the remote start. The system will check that you have the e-brake on and basically you have to preset it before you step out of the car so you can use the remote start option after you step away from the car. You cant just press the remote start and expect it to start if you didnt set it.

I'm using a viper 5901 from Broadfield...there's a thread around here how to install it, couple of us used it.

Had one too on my car in Japan, that one is just press it and itll start kinda deal...never had an issue with it driving it for over 4 yrs. Besides, nobody can drive my car but me...twin plate clutch.

This is ALL completely false assuming the remote starter is designed to work on a manual transmission. On the Viper product the units are designed to work with manual or automatic transmissions. There is a sequence you have to perform every single time before you remote start it. It's impossible to start it in gear. Doesn't matter if it's your car, someone else is using your car, they don't know what the hell they are doing... it just doesn't matter. It's fail proof! Someone would literally have to break into your car without opening the door, without setting off the alarm and then pop it into gear. That would be the only way it could remote start in gear.

For what it's worth I use my remote start just as much in the summer to cool the car down.

Lots of bad information man. Do some research first before spouting out info, acting like you know the insides and out of a product.

Dude, you didn't even give me a chance to reply back to your PM. WTF? Like I said, I don't have the time to walk you through a complete install when it appears that you are going to have no idea what you are doing. If you were a customer of mine then I would offer you all my time that I could physically allocate. This isn't something that I tell you how to do it and you just go do it. Sure, I could make a writeup, but that would take over an hour and you would still need to contact me about stuff a million times I'm sure... I simply cannot offer you that much of my life... I'm sorry.

So if you care to check your PM's, I offered to email you a tech sheet that will tell you location, polarity and color of every wire needed for the install. You would then need to cross reference the tech sheet wiring with the wiring for your system.

Im not talking like I know every thing. Not once did I even Hint at that's im just speaking from personal experience. My aunts bf had a remote start for his, and he has had it hit shit twice from people leaving it in gear. And his alarm is a viper. So perhaps the people who installed it didnt do the whole manual thing ur talking about.

What more would anyone want. Broad has held your hand enough. If you can not get the info you need, then it's time to turn it over to a professional and pay to get the results you are looking for.

I know, I hope I didn't come off as a total dick. I just didn't want people thinking that they can't put a remote start on a manual transmission safely. Which is why I put a disclaimer that you are false "assuming" the remote start is designed for a manual trans. If the remote start is not designed for a manual trans then you are 100% correct. Carry on!

I personally installed mine in my S13 and cross referenced every wire with the FSM and confirmed it with Broadfield. Checked everything as good but ran into that Manual Transmission programming thing, Broadfield calls me up and tells me how to set it up. Done and done. Auto start only works when hand brakes are up and gear is in neutral. Viper 5704.
