sr20det SOLID LIFTER shimming problem

im having a problem. I have installed valve springs and tomei solid cams. I did the calculations with a feeler gauge, and the results ive gotten seem as if the valve are sitting to low. Most off the numbers i got are to high that tomei doesnt even make shims that large( above 3mm). I even put the stock shims (3mm) on top of the retainers and after installing the rocker and cam the rocker just can be moved around easily ( there is to much clearance between the cam and rocker). WHAT IS WRONG?!?!? is it the cams, the valves ?!?!?

I had a similar problem a couple years ago. What happened with me is that the machine shop ground the top of the valves too much (they used 91 SE-R Specs) so it caused too much of a gap. If that's the case, you'll need new valves.

^^^^ what he just said is spot on.

I just had a customer with a similar situation, except machine shop xyz, sunk the hell out of his valves(cut seat toooo much) so his head was too tight. So i had to take it all apart & grind the stem tips & hand fit each valve!!!!

i had this same problem and fixed it by cutting shims from feeler gauge and putting it under the sla in its bore. it just shims the sla up higher so you need a smaller shim. works fine for me, no problems at all.
