SR SR20 swap advice for n00b

Just recently got my 98' Kouki with a red top SR20 with single turbo swap, witch I'm excited to work on. I don't know much about the SR, let alone about turbo's. What would you recommend doing to it first i.e. maintenance, upgrading (turbo, tune, what psi to run for daily), what NOT to do. Any advice will help, I'm slowly but surely learning about Nissan motors.

Thanks Gents
Colin

Nice!

Witch I have been lol but any advice on turbo upgrades? I think it's the T25 I hear would be my best bet with a good tune? I'm just trying to avoid any bad/avoidable modifications that anyone has experienced with the SR.. I'm wanting to make around 300hp to the wheels, right now I think I'm at 200 roughly.

A T25 wont get you 300 to the wheels. Maybe 250 max but not any more. The S15 T28 would be nice for your goals.

before you start upgrading for performance, what about doing maintenance? you already have alot of stuff to replace already:

spark plugs
spark plug wires
any necessary belts
turbo gasket & check your turbo to see how it's doing
injector O rings?
make sure your sr is getting all the boost so check for vaccum leaks& boost leak?
front & rear main seal
change all the fluids (engine oil, transmission fluid, diff fluid)

I guess zilvians are fed up with people asking such general questions that you can find on google.

I hope the list above will start you off.

Nissans are great!

^^^ sr's don't have spark plug wires.

your motor doesn't have a "single turbo swap"... it came turbo from the factory.

S14 or s15 T28's will get you 300 with supporting mods..

done

good stuff!

I didn't mean I had a "single turbo swap" I was just stating that it has a single turbo. I wasn't sure if there was such thing as a twin turbo SR; but obviously I do know now.. (;

I'm well aware.. lol I just recently got into the tuner world with a 93' Fback with a KA24de and learned a lot form it, doing minor mod's (intake, maintenance, DCC, s14 seat belts, 4-2-1 header, HKS high flow exhaust, coils ) mostly cosmetics stuff. My friends are all mechanics a I never cared to learn until now. Ive learned a lot about motors from here and other sites and will continue to learn on.

^^^ WTF?! hahahaha!

I will! The guy that did the swap has done swaps 100s of times. It runs solid.

I'll search google how to look for leaks because I don't want to get yelled at again lol

Is it some deep-rooted necessity in humanity to seek answers from other sources that for whatever reason we are unable to obtain answers on our own? What deep rooted psychological trauma have we incited that we have such a petty need? WTF bro for real?

i just got my SR S13 last summer, first thing that went/was going when i got it was the turbo gasket, so if you start smelling lots of exhaust and are kinda confused, check if the gasket is hanging out the side like mine was. but check ur fluids, and one dumb thing that hopefully you already know, always use 93 octane lol

As previously stated, you need to run through the maintence and basic stuff. You wouldn't build a mansion on top of a 20 year old foundation without an extensive check first. I'd start with the fluids (Chang all of them). Work your way to checking compression/spark/ then on from there. Don't forget suspension either...its easy to over look it but a decent freshened up suspension will make a world of difference.

Yeah thanks a lot guys for the great info, truly. (: I assumed most this stuff but great to have reassurance! And I'm sure you're helping more people then me!

What way better to seek info then to ask first hand (derr)? Its been asked before and it will be asked again. Not asking a nuclear physicist question gives tool bags a good opotunity to flame, stop being a negative Nacy and stfu. Don't like the question? Then don't help me out!

The reason stupid threads like this get flamed on is because theres Fuckin YEARS of knowledge on here easily available. Why open up a stupid thread when you know nothing or atleast attempted to do research on what you drive? If you want to spoon feed a grown man go ahead if thats what your into
