hks turbo timer install.

This is suppossed to be fairly easy but I have not seen any place with a write up on it. I cant figure out which harness this is suppossed to plug into. I am also thinking that I might have gotten the wrong harness. Any info on this wiring would help. it is on an s14

Harness? We don't need no stinking harness!

Turbo timer usually hooks up to power, ground, ignition, and ebrake ground.

Man you ask as many questions as I did.

I apreciate all the help, I am just trying to make sure that I get everything set up correctly on this turbo install. For the last 2 years I have been trying to get one of my 240s turbod and I finally figured that I have been surfing around on here enough and should just man up and do it. You guys know so much about this that I would be a fool to try to do it alone. Thats what I like about having a 240 is all the help that everybody is compared to other car owners.

anyways I cant read jappanees so I am not sure what goes were. and how to plug it up. would you happen to know what wires goes were and what color they should be. Thanks bro

Tell us what kind of timer you are installing. SR20DET or KA24DET? It will help if you have the right timer harness for your ignition harness. Verify the P/N of the harness to the year of your car on a website that sells them. That part will be direct plug in. Open up your steering column and find the the only harness that it plugs into. You'll need to pull your center console to tap into your ebrake wire. 12V and ground should be easy to find. The trick on my HKS type I was finding the wires for RPM and speedo. The Japanese instructions showed where to tap these on my S14 SR20DET ECU based on the year of the engine. The important stuff is written in English. The # of pinouts were also different for the different ECUs so that helped me cross check everything. I counted pins three times and spliced once. Good luck finding the pinouts if you have KA motor, because that will not be in the instructions.

it SHOULD be cake.

On the turbo timer
power is usually red
ignition is green (on my blitz) or yellow
ground is always black
accessory is usually blue

GO BUY A MULTIMETER! Best thing you can get for electrical I promise.

Open up the steering column. Set the multimeter to read voltage. Ground the black wire, and stick the red wire onto a wire on the car.

If it reads 12+ volts thats your power.
If it reads 0 and then if you turn the key once it reads 12+ thats accessory.
If it reads 0 and you turn the key twice but dont start and it reads 12+ thats ignition.
Ground is a wire to the car. So screw in the wire to the chassis.

Cake. Run leads from the steering column or some of these wires you can also find on the stereo connector to make life easier. I recommend soldering and shrink tubing your connections(If you use cheap plastic connectors you'll only regret it later).

Thanks Maede, would you happen to know what color our ignition wire is, I can run the assesorie wire from the assessorie wire behind the stereo, and the ground is easy as well as the constant power, that will come off of the back of the stereo as well, is the ignition wire the one that actually starts the starter, if so I believe it is yellow with a black stripe, Thanks again for the help hopefully I will be up and running this afternoon.

Do yourself a favor and just get a harness, don't chop up your OEM wires! RPM signal is right in the back of the cluster obviously. The FSM will tell you which one it is...trust me, I've seen it in there.

You're doing this without a plug and play harness?! It's like 15 bucks to make the install a breeze and no headaches. If you have the harness and its not working check your grounds! Make sure its bolted down to a good ground. Main ground for the timer and ground for the e-brake switch. I didn't read the whole thread sorry if this has been covered lol. Good luck.

Come on, you should know this! You've been a member longer than me...took me less than a minute to find this, but longer to post it up...

EL-74 - EL 76 of the S14 FSM.

-Pin 22 is the ground wire that goes into the cluster.
-Pin 12 is the RPM signal wire that comes from the ECM.

-Color of wire is L/B.

Here you go man. Please don't cut your OEM wires! I'm begging you!

Ignition: Get a turbo timer harness and that will take care of the ignition wire.

RPM: I just posted it.

Speedometer:

Pins 28 (Red/Yellow) & 35 (Red) come from the speed sensor into the "Electric Speedometer" located inside the cluster. (This is just extra info)

Pin 29 (Y/G) sends the speed signal to the ECM.

See above attachment for location of the wires.

*If this info is incorrect, please correct me*

The FSM I was looking at looked like it had three pins for RPM. Figured I'd asked and I was pleased. Thanks.
