No gas gauge (HELP)

i was out drifting at an event a couple weeks ago, after i got done with a run i noticed my gas gauge drop to E. Wasnt really sure where to begin so i started with what i could do trackside, pulled the cluster hoping it was just a wire come loose. nothing. checked the top of my fuel pump for loose wire. again, nothing.
So now ive got it back in the garage still trying to figure out where the problem is, ive run out of any options/idea's of what else it could be. Only thing left is to drop the tank and check to see if its the floater or something inside.
Anyone have some idea's of anything else i could check before i drop this tank, idk if it could be a wire in the ECU i checked some pinouts but didnt see anything for fuel gauge, just fuel pump. motor is KA24DE from '95 240.

help plz

Odds are the float just came off. You don't need to drop the tank, there's an access panel in the trunk. Google "240sx install walbro 255" and it will have instructions to get into the tank and not get fuel everywhere too badly. The plastic float is probably just floating around in the tank and not on the arm.
BTW, checking the float will be easier than pulling the cluster

The s14 floater is not the same as a normal one. It looks lol a big plastic tube, I would check the connections that are inside the tank on the float there are two of them. Try to do this with a half tank or so, so you don't have to reach your hand in gas. Good luck hope this helps.

dude.. check for signal voltage to the cluster.. those 3 screws that hold the gauge in should have 12v, ground, and signal (1-5v or whatever)

if you have NO signal voltage with key on, go back to the level sending unit, check for signal coming out of the plug...

Check the contact patch on the sending unit, if its warn in a spot its probably the problem, also check the voltage like said above.

well, somehow me pulling the sending unit out and looking at it fixxed the problem. i put it back in and its working. i plan on ordering a walbro unit this week anyways, im guessing its prolly just a problem with the sending unit itself or like you said just a worn spot. ill check the voltage and all that this week as well.
Thanks for the help guys

If it turns out to be a warn spot, use window defrost metal paint and it should make the conections better.

Did it fall off the bracket? If it popped off once, it will pop off again. Best bet is opening the tank up again and figuring out a way to keep it from falling off again.

Check for continuity from the solders on the sending unit to the corresponding leads in the plug. I read that those wires have a tendency to break at the point where they attach to the tank access cover on the S13s. If it's just a broken wire, you can resolder, if the terminal has broken, you may need to consider a brass bolt and nut with brass and rubber washers.

yeah i checked all the wires they all look good none are loose/broken. all the wires on the sending unit look to be in good condition. im not sure if maybe somehow throwing the car around at the even maybe caused the floater arm to get stuck or something, this is the first time ive had this problem. since i fixed it the other day ive been driving around and its working
